A rather impressive Reddit thread of the most offensive jokes its users could think of

quote [ What's the difference between Princess Diana and Tiger Woods? Tiger Woods has a better driver. ]

I figured some here might have a few in reserve they've been waiting to use.

So-called 'Ground Zero Mosque' opens without a single protest

quote [ The center was crowded for most of the evening — with visitors who said they came to see the new photography exhibition and others who were interested in the place itself. Brooklyn's Jean Stevens said she's not surprised the event went off without a hitch. ]

Surely Al Qaeda are just holding the True Patriots hostage or something, right?

I think we've had the 'money shot' from tonight's Fox News GOP debates...

quote [ Members of the crowd gathered for the Fox News/YouTube debate booed a video of a gay soldier in Iraq who asked if the nine presidential candidates on stage would work to “circumvent” the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. ]

Also, former tax attorney Bachmann says you should keep every dollar you earn. The Nation liveblogged the debate.

Jeb Bush forms a company to offer for-profit disaster relief

quote [ A veteran of emergency response operations -- having personally weathered Hurricane Andrew and then shepherded the state through 7 mega-hurricanes as governor -- Bush has joined forces with O'Brien's Response Management, an emergency planning company, according to a story in the Maritime Executive on its web site today. ]

More on this in the extended.

Indonesia's Mount Tambora is becoming active

quote [ Villagers like Hasanuddin Sanusi have heard since they were young how the mountain they call home once blew apart in the largest eruption ever recorded — an 1815 event widely forgotten outside their region — killing 90,000 people and blackening skies on the other side of the globe. ]

This is the volcano that caused what was called the Year Without a Summer.

Perry's record on job creation in Texas not looking so great...

quote [ The policy paper, published by the Austin-based non-partisan Center for Public Policy Priorities, said poverty in Texas was currently higher than the rest of the US and was growing faster.

The paper said poverty rates in Texas had jumped from 17.3% in 2009 to 18.4% in 2010, and compared them to figures for the US of 14.3% in 2009, rising to 15.1% in 2010. ]

Whoops?

Rick Perry takes some hits in the GOP debates, Tea Party crowd shows new level of inhumanity.

quote [ For nearly the entire session, Perry was attacked by his opponents on all manner of topics ranging from immigration, to the controversial HPV vaccine he briefly mandated in Texas to the so-called Texas Miracle to, of course, Social Security. ]

My favorite part was when the crowd cheered at the idea of letting someone without insurance die.

Adobe brings Flash to iPhone and iPad

quote [ Flash Media Server 4.5 allows publishers to stream Flash content to iOS devices, which means support within the iOS Safari browser is not required. Instead of relying on a device’s processor to render the stream, which often degrades battery life and slows a device down, Adobe’s Flash Media Server 4.5 does all the legwork. ]

So there's that. Yay?

Orson Scott Card rewrites Hamlet, blames the entire tragedy on Hamlet's dad being gay

quote [ The extent of the novella's failure is surprising—and embarrassing, given that Card is a skilled veteran novelist and Subterranean a well-respected press. The most polite thing for us to do would be to walk away and quietly forget the whole painful exercise. But Card does not deserve our polite amnesia. His failures should be known and remembered, because the revelation in his "revelatory new version" turns out to be a nightmare of vitriolic homophobia. ]

He's trolling us, right?

Rick Perry slashed Texas' budget for fighting wildfires, now asking feds for more aid.

quote [ Perry has spent this entire disastrous year berating the feds for not spending enough time, attention and -- most important -- money on helping his fire and drought-ridden state, at one point claiming the president had a personal vendetta against the state of Texas. ]

Yeah, it's an opinion piece, but it's got cited sources.
