Artemis, engage!

quote [ Artemis simulates a spaceship bridge by networking several computers together. One computer runs the simulation and the "main screen", while the others serve as workstations for the normal jobs a bridge officer might do, ]

No, it's not about Danny Devito's girlfriend on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. But, that would be a good game also. Click this shit to go to their website and DL the demo. Looks like fun!

One of my friends had a Star Trek-themed party a week or two back and ran this. Said it was an absolute blast, and they were actually getting decent at it after a while.

This looks really really neat. Reminds me of a computerized version of a combination GURPS / Star Fleet Battles game I tried to run last year.

**SPOILER**Little disappointed that it didn't blow up everything at the end.

The captain in the youtube clip has the voice of nails on a chalkboard.

Also, Zach of Zachtronic Industries (maker of SpaceChem and stuff) made an impressively ghetto precursor to this called Flight of the Atropos.

Why on earth isn't this on iOS?

It's Star Trek.

Star Trek is operated by touchscreens.
Naruki said @ 6:02pm GMT on 1st Sep
You mean the later Star Treks. The original was all analog and sticks and levers. Hell, I think they may have even had a steam-powered robot once.

Does the Scotty guy in engineering have to sit in a different room?
Barnabas_Truman said @ 9:35pm GMT on 1st Sep
In TOS Scotty was on the bridge fairly often, sitting at an engineering console in the back left corner (across from Uhura).

Does the Communications Officer do anything other than periodically report that no, the enemy doesn't wish to surrender?

Jam the enemy's targeting systems? Or would that be more science officer?
mechanical contrivance said @ 5:11pm GMT on 2nd Sep
Jam the enemies transmissions, of course.

probably coordinates support from other ships, maybe there are fights that can be avoided through a dialogue tree and so forth.

"Comm, Hail the lead ship"

"Connection established Captain."

"Lead ship of the Korochu Armada this is Captain Milkman of the starship Artemis. Eat a bag of dicks. Mr Funnytickle, open fire, im going to take a piss and top off this whiskey sour."
Barnabas_Truman said @ 7:52pm GMT on 2nd Sep
I can see the communications officer having a MUCH stronger role in a game with several ships run by player teams in different rooms.

I especially like how the 'ceiling cat' view made the ball look like a yo-yo.

Any SF bay area crew? Next month I should be moving into a house that will have a living room for this.

Ha, I'm in. Just don't let me be the helmsman. I suffer from a severe case of asian driver syndrome. At least I don't have to parallel park in space.
Barnabas_Truman said @ 8:47pm GMT on 8th Sep
I don't have a computer that will run it, but if you can provide one I'd love to give it a try.
