quote [ Mitt Romney’s family sued Mexico after using it as a safe haven when they left the United States to flee polygamy laws and religious prosecution. ]
See extended to follow the bouncing ball.
Miles Park Romney, Mitt's great-grandpa, fled America for Mexico in 1885 to evade prosecution under the anti-polygamy laws. Under the law Miles fled to avoid, people could be stripped of their citizenship if they refused to comply with the law. If the Romney family was stripped of their citizenship, then Mitt's father, George, was not an American citizen--because he was born in Mexico, and his parents would not have been American citizens either. Which makes Mitt an "anchor baby"!

You're assuming the Mitt Romney running in the election is the real Mitt Romney. He could just be some random guy from Utah. We will never know until he, whoever he is, releases the 1968 French police report. |

"Mitt Romney" isn't the proper way to write his name. It should be "𐐣𐐮𐐻𐐻 𐐡𐐱𐑋𐑌𐐨". Here's a handy guide to writing in Deseret (𐐔𐐯𐑅𐐨𐑉𐐯𐐻, aka Mormonese). You will need learn it for when he (who ever he is) becomes president of 𐐜 𐐏𐐭𐑌𐐴𐐻𐐯𐐼 𐐝𐐻𐐩𐐻𐑅. |

Mitt's great grandfather, Miles Park Romney, the one who fled to Mexico, was the first editor of the Arizona Mormon newspaper The Orion Era that was apparently written in Deseret. Mitt's grandfather, Gaskell, helped out with typesetting. |

Is it really worth judging a presidential candidate by the sins of the fathers? My grandpa worked for the Chicago mob (as I understand it he was their clean accountant, making sure everything was airtight but not dealing with any of the shady side of things), but if I ever ran for office I wouldn't want that held against me. I've got plenty of flubs of my own to be judged by! |

I dunno, John Kerry is still carrying enough shrapnel to set off airport metal detectors, but that didn't stop the Swiftboaters. If accusing Romney of digging up Joseph Smith's corpse to have his way with it would work, I say go for it. All's fair in love and war, and though I hate to admit it, there are plenty of low-information Democratic voters out there as well. |
|
bruceski

That was going after Kerry for something he allegedly did (or rather didn't do) himself. This is claiming something for Romney that, if true he would have no choice about. The former is vile but different. |

Yeah, mine forced through a bit of property tax reform without bowing to threats. He was a bit rambly when he told the story but it was something about hospitals getting tax breaks no questions asked, so they were owning buildings and renting them out for living in without paying taxes for it. Ya live in the slums with a kid to take care of, you do what you gotta do and try to hang onto your soul. |

Some interesting statements I ran across on reddit.. by IrritableGourmet The USDA requires that if you sell chicken wing shaped objects that are not 100% wing meat, you have to call them "wyngz" instead of "wings". We should push for an FCC restriction that if you intend to falsify, editorialize, or otherwise distort the news, you have to call it "Nuwz" instead. slash196 Let's be clear: if you are anti-abortion AND anti-contraception, you are not pro-life. You are anti-sex. Louie Gohmert: Aurora Shootings Result Of 'Ongoing Attacks On Judeo-Christian Beliefs' A New York Times front-page article Monday detailed a new phenomenon in news coverage of the presidential campaign: candidates insisting on "quote approval," telling reporters what they can and cannot use in some stories. And, stunningly, reporters agreeing to it. http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/19/opinion/rather-quote-approval-reporting/index.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+mediaredef+%28jason+hirschhorn%27s+Media+ReDEFined%29 |
