Former Argentine dictator Jorge Videla convicted of systemic theft of babies

quote [ From 1976 to 1983 an estimated 500 babies were stolen and secretly integrated and adopted into families of right-wing military members and their allies as part of sweeping program that brutally targeted left-wing militants and sympathizers during the military junta’s seven-year rule. ]

Shouldn't there be the death penalty for this sort of crime? At least life in a miserable prison without any possibility of parole?

Oh boy another complete monster that USA intelligence is responsible for placing into power.

It's our fault, it's all our fault, everything is our fault forever.

Certainly hyperbole, since people are prone to find the simplest solution--conspiracy. However, don't tell me you're not aware of US policies in regards to fostering and supporting the conditions in Latin America in the 1970s that led to people like these men gaining and maintaining power?

Sure, no question about it. If this post had been about Chile under Pinochet I'd be in total agreement. But Argentina is not Chile, and all of Latin America is not the same. Yeah, US (and Soviet) Cold War machinations were certainly responsible for plenty of spilled blood in the region- but the broad assumption that we're to blame for every brutal dictatorship is both simple-minded and factually incorrect.

I live in Uruguay, next to Argentina, and we had dictatorship almost at the same time, and I can tell you that US intelligence was a great supporter of both dictatorships.

To answer your question Mary, never the death penalty ever, just a very quiet and lonely cell once proved guilty.

Also, didn't Kissinger leave a whole series of horrible messes all over the world wherever he got involved.

Baby theft? It probably involved some fat bastard.
