Higgs? Is that you love?

quote [ Cern scientists reporting at conferences in the UK and Geneva claim the discovery of a new particle consistent with the Higgs boson. ]

This means they've moved from "This is a nice theory" to "We are now 99.99% certain the theory is correct. I must be an incredible nerd to find this thing exciting :)

Great. I spent so long finding an image small enough that someone beat me too it :) Mod me down, bitches.

Man arrested at Large Hadron Collider claims he's from the future.

The discovery of the Higgs boson led to limitless power, the elimination of poverty and Kit-Kats for everyone. It is a communist chocolate hellhole.

Uh, that's what it says in the article, Mountain Dew.

Protip: If it's a topic that's likely to have been posted before and you're in a hurry you can search the topic and just pinch one of the images that somebody else has found. Conversely, you can go to a site like resiseyourimage.com, which does what it says.

Still, I've been beaten to the punch many many times and it sucks, so I feel guilty for doing it to you :\

You can ask the downmodders to hold off while you search for another story, or conversely clear our your porn bookmarks :) Hope this helps mate

I usually just google image search and download the thumbnail.
pleaides said @ 4:08am GMT on 5th Jul [Score:1 Informative]
I used to do the same thing, but lately google's image page has been doing that thing whereby it magnifies the image when the cursor is over it, which is helpful except when you're looking for thumbs.
arrowhen said @ 4:54am GMT on 5th Jul
I hadn't noticed that, because I did my last few posts on my phone.

For a workaround, use "google.com/m/" to get their mobile site. Mobile image search still uses the small thumbs.

Just think - What would they have called the thing now-a-days?
Instead of 'god-damned' particle, (which was censored to become the 'god' particle) how about we are now searching for the 'mother' particle
:-)

Ugh. As a result of The Fucking Discovery Channel misleading people, once fucking again. I'm really started to get sick of those guys. They're starting to push science literacy backwards.
Ankylosaur said @ 10:17pm GMT on 4th Jul
One of bbqkink's recent ubiquitous MSNBC videos had an ad for some Nation Geographic Channel show about UFO hunters who are also parkour experts, or something. I don't have cable, so I don't know, but are there any actual science channels or are they all bullshit like this?
blibblob said @ 3:34pm GMT on 7th Jul
PBS. Only PBS remains. I think NOVA has been the best science series ever maintained. If we lose PBS, science in this country is done for.
RedRiverRat said @ 4:13pm GMT on 4th Jul
Surely Im not the only one who always reads it as the Large Hard-On Collider. Science and its dicks.

It's not the size of the particle kids, its the action of it's motion.

sanepride said @ 4:13pm GMT on 4th Jul
In cases like this I check the timestamp. If there's a minute or less difference I think it's fair to let it slide. Here I see you posted ~6 minutes after the original post- more than enough time to refresh the page and check to see if it had been posted.

In some cases I check for the trampstamp. If it's butterfly or dolphin I'll let it slide in. I did notice the ~6 once and that turned into an impromptu hodown. And yes, there was dancing.
kylemcBitch said @ 5:06pm GMT on 4th Jul
As we closer to proving the existence of the Higgs-Boson, I hope that mainstream media stops calling it the "God Particle."

After all, we seem to be able to prove it's real.
sanepride said @ 5:38pm GMT on 4th Jul
Good luck with that. After all we're talking about the same mainstream media that gives a measure of equivalency to climate change deniers and corporate shills as it does to actual climate scientists.
