quote [ Weed (AKA: Marijuana, Cannabis, Pot, Kush, 420, Hash, Mary Jane and Skunk) was invented simultaneously by every religion's God at least 100 years ago in 1969 on the planet Mexico and legalized Last Thursday in 1982 when Hitler lost the Cold War. ]
Myself, I haven't partaken since 1996 or so. Sometimes I miss the way Led Zeppelin was cooler to listen to while high, but I figure having a job and not smelling like a hippie is a worthwhile tradeoff.

This past week I've had 2 very vivid dreams about smoking and being absolutely completely high in my dream. But I also very clearly remember being terrified to death about having smoked since Japan has zero tolerance laws for pot possession (although interestingly enough thc USE is not a crime) and the stress of possibly getting fired from my current job if they found out. I think this anxiety stems from the fact that I want to share a pot smoking experience with my wife but also terrified of getting fired from my job if I do. But I'll say this, even though it was a dream, it was still really nice to "get high" again. |

One was Phantom. The other was Les Miserables. Turns out my dad had excellent taste in theater. |

same here, from the age of 17 to 25 I smoked pot every day... Didnt have a job, learnt to skateboard very well and play the guitar but that was it... Hung out with unsavoury characters, done some shady stuff. It put a constructive contributing life on hold, made me shallow and self focussed. Quitting suddenly woke up drive and ambition to do something... Its only when youre on the outside you can look back and say - That was lame... I spent a summer in my room... maybe 2.... I cant rememeber... Time for the self obsessed responses in which readers justify their own addiction and reliance on pot... but.... Its time to go outside... I stopped smoking pot 6 or 7 years ago when I moved away from my tedious pothead acquaintances and couldn't be bothered to make new ones. If the stuff was legal, and I could somehow GUARANTEE that I'd only ever get "giggle at bad TV, forget how boring Reggae actually is, eat the hell out of a bag of popcorn, and enjoy a really good nights' sleep" high and not the "oh look, I can no longer experience time as a linear flow of events instead of this flood of terrifyingly disjointed individual moments who each seem to last approximately forever; additionally, I'm also unable to engage in simple conversation, as halfway through one sentence my mind has already raced through dozens of tangentally related thoughts to the point where I can't remember what I was trying to say in the first place. All in all, this seems like a good time for a two hour panic attack" high that I ended up getting about half the time, I'd probably smoke it every day. |

I kind of enjoy that latter kind of high. Then again I don't really see smoking pot as as much of a social activity that some people do. One hit with a group of people, sure, but having a dozen people passing around bowl after bowl? What's the point? Everyone will become gurgling messes other than that one burnt out pothead who uses that as an opportunity to rant to a group of mostly unresponsive paranoids about how the government is poisoning the tap water supply to keep us in line, so only drink bottled water. Yes, exactly the kind of scene you expect to see in a stoner comedy. But sitting around with maybe one or two other people, reaching that level of high can become an interesting introspective experience. Especially when music is involved, when one can with ease simultaneously concentrate on the nuances of the music as well as run a deeply analytical perspective of oneself. Time comes to a standstill as every musical line and note creates its own web of thought. It becomes easy to lose oneself, but then simply turn up the volume and sink into the ocean of patterned noise. Mostly unrelated, but having not smoked at all in over a month and very very little the past 6 or so I've started noticing music and contexts that bring back the exact mental state of being stoned. I mean, exact, with no canabinoids involved. My Bloody Valentine while driving on the interstate seems to work every time. |

It's interesting, but it does not explain why some people are so strongly affected by the same sample of weed while others are not. I suspect that it is more due to variations in individual chemical sensitivities and the specific types of cannabinoids involved than to the THC levels. The reason I think this is because of the reactions people have been having to the synthetic products. Clearly not all cannabinoids are equal just as not all opiates are equal. |

Alcohol or nicotine can potentiate the effects. I have particularly low tolerance to nicotine and I find it can contribute to the racing thoughts, altered perception, introspective high that originally changed me from non-cannabis-user to occasional-cannabis-user. of course i can also get that from weed alone, and mixing drugs is an inherently risky proposition. serotonin syndrom <-- many recreational and prescription drugs, and pretty much anything that makes you feel good, can lead to serotonin syndrome. hepatotoxicity <-- most drugs (including ibuprofen and tylenol) are hepatotoxins, some moreso than others. in general you should never mix any two drugs (legal, illegal, otc, Rx) without being sure that it's safe. |

I'm an assistant coach at San Rafael High for the varsity football team--this year I'll handle the tight ends and the defensive ends. I'm going over to school in a short bit to see what happens. Yes, there'll be guys in the weight room, and I'll help supervise, as I usually do. There are lots of stories I could tell about some of the students. We're 65% Latino, but on the football team the percentage is higher, like 80%, with a couple white guys. Two years ago we were undefeated and one of the best football teams in the Bay Area. We were small but had great talent. Last year, though, we had even better talent--it's just that our line was not good, and we did not do as well. And every year we have guys who've played football for only 2 or 3 years, going up against high schools where kids have played Pop Warner since childhood. I love the sport, like working with the guys. And it's almost 4:20... |

Actually, I found it humorous. Shortly after I had a brief talk with the athletic director on another issue and he whispered that the weight room was empty of football players due to 420, with a smile of chagrin on his face. Like I said, there are some sad stories to relate, related to marijuana consumption. A while ago there was a VERY gifted athlete--a D-I possibility--who smoked his senior year away. Another got into theft and violated his probation. A third was sent away for gang activity. Others are very well getting snagged into gangs. And grades go up and down like a yo-yo. The striking reality is that school sports are a gang intervention. |
