Also the least necessary ones, given that you can get the same effect by playing back the original audio, and displaying the translation as a subtitle.

As a bonus, you can display subtitles in more than one language at the same time.

I think it's worth noting that this demo does not involve any advance in the core issues of universal translation: recognizing the meaning of the words themselves and finding an appropriate way of expressing that meaning in another language. This is just about getting the output to sound more like your voice saying it.

and if that fails, the ability to fabricate an equivalent metaphor on the spot as the context deems necessary. that's often what they're doing when they pause.

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum told Puerto Ricans on Wednesday they would have to make English their primary language if they want to pursue U.S. statehood, a statement at odds with the U.S. Constitution.

"Like any other state, there has to be compliance with this and any other federal law," Santorum said. "And that is that English has to be the principal language. There are other states with more than one language such as Hawaii but to be a state of the United States, English has to be the principal language."

However, the U.S. Constitution does not designate an official language, nor is there a requirement that a territory adopt English as its primary language in order to become a state.
