Family Guy writer blogs about his treatment by LA cops at Occupy protest

quote [ The officer dropped with his knee on my back and ground my face into the pavement. It really, really hurt and my face started bleeding and I was very scared. I begged for mercy and I promised that I was honestly not resisting and would not resist. ]

I get angry at the world, I really do. I get angry at violent thugs permitted to indulge their sociopathy by the uniforms they wear.

And I get especially angry at the smug politicians who know they'll get away with whatever excesses they choose to order, because the only people willing to hold them accountable have been stripped of their power to change the system.

It sounds melodramatic, but it's the simple truth; I see two stark choices for Americans down the line. Revolution, or enslavement in everything but name. And the sheer brazen nature of the actions your leaders are taking (or allowing their corporate sponsors to take) against their own populace indicates that they may soon lose the reluctance to call it what it is.

Yes. Because he writes a mediocre comedy cartoon the content of this post is rendered invalid.

I don't condemn police brutality, but I couldn't care less about anyone who works for Family Guy.

I don't care if you mod me as a troll. The show is crap and the only reason this is "news worthy" is because he is a writer for the show. Take Family Guy out of the equation and it is just another rant.

Do you mean you don't condone police brutality or you do condemn it? I'm having trouble reconciling your first sentence.

That is melodramatic.

This country is completely fucked. We're not going to have a revolution, and nothing will be powerful enough to fight the money and its societal control without one.

In an age where money can create flying robot assassins (or the less-alarming term our government uses: drones), perhaps revolution would still be insufficient.
dreamingzephyr said @ 3:02pm GMT on 8th Dec
Well, I guess the country isn't fucked. Just most of its conditioned-by-television-over-decades populace.

I suppose we're still one of the greatest countries on Earth for the wealthy.

Don't worry! Hopefully intelligence, disatisfaction and disloyalty can be breed out of most humans to make a worker-caste so we can be largely happy with what is happening. :D

What?

Oh, you hippies you.

(include me in the thanks in the awesome sci-fi book you wrote about this please)

So I think by now we've established that non-violent protest just results in you getting your ass beat, and doesn't actually change anything.

Can we start with the violent protests now, please? A little less King, a little more Black Panthers?
foobar said @ 8:48pm GMT on 8th Dec
Isn't the former responsible for most, if not all, the progress and the latter for slowing or stopping it?
arctan said @ 2:29am GMT on 9th Dec [Score:4 Insightful]
No.

Gandhi's movement had plenty of violence associated with it. MLK's movement existed in parallel with the violence associated with Malcolm X and others. Notice that the Civil Rights Act didn't pass until well after MLK's famous I Have A Dream moment when we were in the throes of actual angry violent civil rights protests across the country.

Honestly nonviolent movements seem to work best when they have a violent bad cop they can play good cop to -- MLK was the dangerous communist radical *until* X started getting lots of attention and Good Liberals could point to MLK as the good-guy black man they supported in contrast to X. It's all about moving the Overton Window.

You know the police are instructed to do this until THEY get what THEY want. Which is a cop getting killed in retaliation. Then the shit will really hit the fan. The military is standing by. Bottles are being filled with gasoline. People are waiting for it.
