Fascinating Interview with Bill Murray on the Howard Stern Show

quote [ Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 ]

At least, *I* found it fascinating. YMMV.

Warning: Audio only against an unflattering static picture of Murray.

If you are ambivalent about Bill Murray, this 50 minute interview will bore you.

If you hate Howard Stern, you will RAAAAGE.

Optional - Drinking Game:

Take a drink every time Bill says "you know"

Wow, a 'list' article that I don't have instant antipathy towards. I agree with much of the author's diagnoses. Kudos.

It's strange to muse what could have been with his career. He is such a personae that it is hard to imagine his take on many of these characters.

tl;dr version: Bill Murray should have been in every Hollywood movie from the late seventies through the 90's. actors who did get those part were mostly adequate, but Murray would have been better except in a few cases.

I got the same vibe from it.

Thing is, I don't entirely disagree with the shortened sentiment either.

Sorry, are we reading the same list here?
Star Wars: better for the movie that Murray wasn't in it
Animal House: matches with what you say
The Jerk: "meh"
The Dead Zone: better for the movie that Murray wasn't in it
Splash: Better for Murray not to have been in it, possibly also for the movie
Three Amigos: better for Murray and the movie for him not to be in it
Legal Eagles: better for Murray not to be in it
Club Paradise: better for Murray not to be in it
Witches of Eastwick: matches with what you say
Roger Rabbit: matches with what you say

That's the first ten. Of the next six movies, five of them say that the part going to someone else is better for the movie, and that only takes us to the mid-90s.

I mean, when you do your TL:DR, don't be selective and only publish part of the information in order to rag on it. Obviously the article is done by someone who likes Murray, but it's not as one-eyed as you make out.

TL:DR you're full of shit, and are intentionally misrepresenting the article.

Somebody did the maths in the comments.
"Was this good for the movie? 8 Yes, 2 maybes, and 16 Nos."
EPT said @ 1:03pm GMT on 1st Mar
another lost comment from SF :/

anyway, in sac's declared timeframe 70s through to 90s there are 19 films - 9 'no', 8 'yes' and 2 'maybe'. Basically a 50% strike ratio. Given that he has talent and these are films he's been seriously considered for, why is it so strange that between two candidates, Murray would be considered better 50% of the time? The numbers certainly don't add up to what sac was implying.
radioelectric said @ 7:13pm GMT on 28th Feb
I'm surprised that the author of that isn't campaigning to have Bill Murray digitally replace every character in the films he watches before they're shown to him.
Resplendent_Elk said @ 11:53am GMT on 28th Feb
Somehow a static picture of ol' Bill is fitting, given his (imho quite brilliant) facial expression minimalism.

Also, you have to give him some respect for showing up at people's parties unannounched and being awesome. Oh, and also for his drunken golf cart shennanigans in Stockholm.

you know if this was around back in 2000 in china while i was there it would have totally been better than any of the porn i saw during the year i was there. i only found videos of stalking girls and never seeing any real cleavage.

i also saw so many skin and soap commercial that offered bigger boobs but never showed that much.

Oh, it's not that. I genuinely despise Howard Stern. He's a coward and a bully and unworthy of the huge salary he earns. I'm a fan of some Bill Murray movies but I absolutely can not stand anything about Howard Stern.

i'm shocked you'd deny it.

regardless...a good rule of thumb in general.

“Absolutely no bullshit here. It was a slow day at the liquor store i work at. My manager was taking a smoke break around back. Bill Murray walked in. he was wearing big shades and a hat. he didn’t want to be noticed. he asked where our grain alcohol was. i was dumbfounded. i loved bill murray’s work. i grew up on ghostbusters. the life aquatic is one of the few movies that makes me bawwww like an infant. i couldn’t even think of how i could begin to praise him, so instead i pointed out the everclear. he took a pint off the shelf, put a mouth ful in his mouth, pulled out a lighter, and shot a flame in the middle of the store. he slapped a twenty on the counter and whispered, ‘No one’s gonna believe you.’”

I can't believe this hasn't been posted

Got into the habit of it because if you use 'make changes' you have to enter the thumbnail details again. Or something.

I really don't care about such details.

The thumnail details look lost, but you don't have to reup the thumb, IIRC - it's still uploaded and applied against your post number
