The best of Kustirica in my opinion is: 1. Do You Remember Dolly Bell? 2. When father was away on business Two excellent and serious movies with subtle humour and bitterness. His relativlely good AND fun to watch movies are those with which he discovered what sells in the west and it was by delivering to the westerner exactly what he already thought about the Balkans (crazy dirty people and surreal situations): 1. Time of the Gypsies (translation fo the original title would be Home for Hanging) - a very good movie about 2. White cat black cat - a surreal Gypsy opera 3. Arizona dream - a surreal movie with johnny depp set in arizona. A flop at the box office. Kusturica later returned to deliver the cliche that got him famous - gipsies and surreal and exaggerated views of balkan mentality. I'm interested to see his movie biography of Maradona. |

Yeah, who plans these things in advance?! No engagement can handle a year! That's just too long to wait to spend the rest of your life with someone, may as well break up now. |

sanepride
said @ 6:58pm GMT on 18th Feb
I'm always suspicious of long or open-ended engagements. Indicates a level of non-committal uncertainty. Nearly everyone I've known who's gone this route ended up not going through with it. I mean, if you've made that decision to marry someone, go ahead and do it, just take the time needed to plan whatever size or type of wedding you're gonna do. Anything beyond six months is just procrastination (even fucking Prince William set a date only five months out, and that's as big a wedding as you can get). It's not like we don't live in an age where a couple can just live together for as long as they need to decide if they're marriage-worthy. |
|

said @ 8:40pm GMT on 18th Feb
Depending on when and where you want to get married, a lot of places are booked at least a year in advance. Kate and Wills had the benefit of being royalty, so, y'know, they get to have their wedding whenever and wherever they like. You can plan a wedding in as little or as much time as you like, but venue is the thing which can make things take longer. A year is not much in the long run. |
|
sanepride
said @ 9:31pm GMT on 18th Feb
The longer the engagement the shorter the odds. Something's fishy here. It's not gonna happen, I'd wager on it. |

Congratulations for being the asshole in the thread then. You do know that one year is pretty standard as far as engagements go? From The Knot 2009 Real Weddings survey (US based) GENERAL WEDDING STATISTICS (Data typically does not change year over year) * Number of guests: 149 (nearly the same as 2008) * Number of bridesmaids: 5 * Number of groomsmen: 5 * Length of engagement: 13.4 months * Most popular month to get engaged: December (16%) * Most popular month to have wedding: June (17%) So unless you have some data that this average length of engagement leads to a higher divorce rate, take your grinching elsewhere and leave the guy trying to plan something nice for his wedding alone. |

Hmmm... well a little basic research indicates that you are correct about year+ long engagements. Go figure. We had a fairly small wedding. Anyway it's probably just a way to get people to spend way more money, thereby creating needless anxiety that will no doubt lead to financial difficulties and marital stress. I say do it quick, keep it simple. Worked for me. |
