quote [ Terry Prouty has been fascinated with wasps, ever since he was a little boy, growing up in Louisiana. Now he’s all grown up and is the owner of possibly the most impressive wasp nest collection in the world. ]

I do not like wasps or hornets. Had a run in with a whole nest when I was 4. My skin is crawling right now. Thank you? |

Unlike yellowjackets and hornets, which can be very aggressive, polistine paper wasps will generally only attack if they themselves or their nest are threatened.[5] Since their territoriality can lead to attacks on people, and because their stings are quite painful and can produce a potentially fatal anaphylactic reaction in some individuals, nests in human-inhabited areas may present an unacceptable hazard.[6] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_wasp |

I've had yellowjackets land on me while they were helping themselves to a sandwich that was sitting on the table outside. Kind of cute when they slice out cubes of turkey and fly off with it. Unfortunately I've had to exterminate a few nests at the building where I work but as a rule I avoid harming them when possible. I'm more afraid of swarming honeybees trying to set up a nest. Honeybees seem like mindless robots; wasps are more thoughtful about attacking but sadly some of them kill spiders. Bumblebees are nice because they don't seem to give a fuck about anything else except flowers. Aside: the weirdest wasp incident was a yellowjacket murdered by a robber fly. I saw the fly catch it in midair and sit down to suck it dry |

There's a trick to dealing with hornets and wasps, and that trick is fire. |

Exactly, roll up a newspaper and make a sort of funnel and then light the wide end on fire. They come swarming out, but drop quickly because it fucks up there wings. Just don't wear sandals because they are still alive crawling on the ground. |
