quote [ How accurate are composite sketches that police use to try to catch suspects?
Everyone's seen police sketches—at the post office, or in the newspaper. But how many criminals actually get caught because of the sketches? It's no small feat for a police artist to draw a realistic portrait of an alleged criminal based only on the oral description of a witness. How accurate are the drawings? ] When somebody's pointing a gun at you, I think the biggest memory is going to be the gun!

The Unabomber did it the wrong way. First you have the long bushy beard, then you commit the crime, THEN you shave and get a new wardrobe You just act stupid and are liable to be caught faster doing it his way. |

a biochemist friend of mine was telling me that animal rights protesters sometimes protest outside her lab, and that they've been know to throw rocks and threaten violence for their killing of mice (in trying to cure MOTHERFUCKING MALARIA). I suggested that she could effectively shield herself from potential attacks if she wore mink to work. LIVE mink, that is. |

Are you baiting me, sir? I apologize if not, but your bringing up of a topic that I think (I sometimes mix up the people with nicks that start with s) we have argued about in the past in a somewhat accusatory manner leads me to suspect such things. I admit I'm probably just paranoid, but I thought I'd ask. |

Can I learn how to protest outside labs trying to cure malaria, or is it something instinctual? |

When I was a kid my cousins lived in a semi-rural area; nearby was a mink farm. At some point some 'protesters' broke into the farm and freed all of the mink from their cages. Many of them died from the stress, many died from starvation and disease within a couple of weeks, but a few went feral and live in the area. They've become something of a menace, killing birds, cats, dogs, chickens and the like. Not a good situation. |

I want to see protesters protesting nature. I love that people think cruelty is a distinctly human trait. It isn't. Watch a cat play with a moth for proof. |

The best is when they actually break in and release the animals who all promptly die in the streets and around town, being unable to care for themselves. Then the lab has to get a whole new batch of animals. |

An ex-gf of mine was attacked in her home, the sketch was published in the paper, and we (myself and a co-worker) caught the guy later that week after overwhelming public identification of the guy. The shitbag was literally painting kids' faces at a street festival at the time we were tipped off to his whereabouts. The ex-gf was quite artistic and eloquent and did her own sketch. She also sort of kicked the shit out of the guy when he attacked her. Awesome woman, and the dude went away for quite awhile. Horrible experience nonetheless. |
