All Howard Carter's Tutankhamun documents and photos and a database of every item found in the tomb. Awesome stuff.

OOOHHH look at me! I made a snarky comment about website design on a website that's mostly text and a couple thumbnail pictures! |

The scripting of that site is pretty weak. I would have forgiven them if they'd actually concentrated on the content (i.e. used xhtml) and separated it from the presentation and layout. According to the article there's atleast one "it-guy" involved in the project so they should have been able to come up with something better. |

Why XHTML, not HTML? |
|

Because it's the prefered W3C standard and also because it promotes accessability (Which is really important for this kind of website.) XHTML is also better suited for structuring textual data in a consistent manner. |

No it isn't. It's deprecated. What's more, the HTML5 spec is no longer based on SGML. I think that is cause for worry, but it's not like the web was really respecting that anyway. |

It was abandoned before the 9th working draft could be hashed out. It's dead, Zed. |

It's not supported by any version of IE without using hacks either. |

Tutankhamun made his way to the light, where two gods waited patiently. One wore the head of a bird, the other a dog. Their twin gaze burned into Tutankhamun's soul, judging him, warming him. He was welcome in this place. But something was missing. Tut looked around him in confusion. "Hey. Where's all my stuff?" The gods did not respond. "I had servants, food, righteous bling. Where is it? Customs?" The dog-headed one sighed. "No. Your things are not here." Tutankhamun frowned. "Unacceptable. I'm going back, and--" "No." The bird-head clacked its long beak. "Your possessions are not needed in this place." "Dammit! I want my stuff!" The boy king was used to having his way. "Not only are your things lost--" "What?!" He shrieked. "We built a fuckin pyramid 500 feet tall! How can it be 'lost'?!" "You lack understanding," Dog-head growled. "It has been eons. Thieves, researchers, treasure-hunters. All have scattered your worldly goods. They are lost." Tut rubbed his eyes. "Next you're gonna tell me my secret burial chamber's been located." The gods exchanged a look. "Oh, that's just grand. Fuckin awesome. Is ANYTHING sacred?" "We should tell him," bird-head clacked. "Yes, we should," dog-head agreed. "Tell me what? What?" "It's about your penis..." |
