quote [ A baby is born with a sterile intestinal track. During the delivery, there’s lots of fluid and stool and whatever, and it’s thought that at that exposure the baby’s colon is populated by the mother’s colon bacteria ]
NSFW because it's Vice.

Ok, in the interest of science, I have to ask the question, how do babies born by c-section get their colon bacteria? According to the theory of the article, they shouldn't have any. |

I was born 6 months early- I lived in a little sterile bubble thingy for a month util my parents broke me out and pulled a runner. So far, being a preemie has had no negative effects on DUUUUUUUUUR. |

I call bullshit on a lot of this article, actually. The smell has to do with the amount of absorbed products like methane, which is made by fermentation of what we eat, and that’s what causes the bad smell, basically. No, methane is an odorless gas. The smell is mostly the result of sulfur. Hell, not all human flatulence even contains methane at all. |

You pick it up from the environment and what you eat. It changes depending on the locale. For instance, it can change after being in the hospital for several days and picking up a single bacteria that can overgrow the usual colonials. This also is the reason you might get GI upset when trying out new endemic foods while travelling. |

I heard liquids make you fart because they water down your stomach acid, so more food gets passed into your intestinal track, which is then food for bacteria. This guy also seems to be saying that the bacteria in your gut never changes etc. I wonder if this guy isn't up-to-date on his shit. |
