quote [ The sheets juxtaposed war images with inspirational Bible quotes and were delivered by Rumsfeld himself. ]
Briefings covered in bible verse and "inspirational war images". Really, could there be anything left about that admin that would surprise me? What a bunch of fraking hypocrites. Direct link to images in extended.

My dad has been reading a lot of American history as he nears retirement, focusing on the founders up through Lincoln, mostly. He's recounted numerous events in our nation's past where we came about a hair away from becoming a dictatorship, imploding, or just plain falling apart into disaster. The more of this stuff I see, the more I think we just lived through one of those events. |

Please tell me this is not the answer I have been looking for all these years to the question of why did we invade Iraq? Secretary Donald Rumsfeld prepared top-secret military intelligence briefs for former President George W. Bush with cover sheets featuring triumphant images from the Iraq war with "Crusades-like" Bible messages, http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/05/rumsfeld-gave-b.html |

Not that I'd want to ever confront a man with a gun over this, but I'd love to ask and have answered honestly: If you worship an all-powerful omnipresent god, what does he need YOU doing ANYTHING for? If he wants someone killed, why would he send some pissant who could just be crazy-go-nuts over religion instead of doing some indisputably miraculous smack-down on his target that might convince those in the vicinity to convert? |

This is similar to what I call Joeyjoejoe's Fundamental Question of Religion: "If God is mad at me, how is that your problem?" I am a spiritual person. I belive in God. If you don't, that's just not my problem. I don't care. |

Hmm, no, I don't think that's similar. Krutz was wondering why people had to attack others in the name of God. You are saying that your passive beliefs are none of anyone's business. Besides these two sentences having the same length in a monospaced font, there really is nothing very similar between them. |

I believe he was expressing that he is religious yet cares not for the religious beliefs of others. i.e. he is an example of what Krutz was hoping to see in others. |
|
Naruki
said @ 6:21am GMT on 18th May
I believe that's neither what Krutz said nor implied. He was responding to a comment about psycho Christians actively murdering "in the name of God". He said he'd like to know what those psychos think is the reason an all-powerful god needs them to do his dirty work. In other words, why are they actively doing something because God needs their help. jjj was just saying he keeps his beliefs to himself. jjj's idea (private beliefs) has nothing to do with the psychos' (public actions). Specifically, jjj's answer to his own question is "it's not", because whatever God does to jjj doesn't involve anyone else. But the psychos' answer to his question is "it's still just your problem, but it's our concern" because they are doing what God apparently is powerless to do for Himself. And Krutz wants to know why they think their omnipotent God is so helpless. |
|
joeyjoejoe
said @ 7:26am GMT on 18th May
Perhaps I should have expounded, but you've restated excellently what I also meant. I would imagine that their omnipotent god shouldn't need their help. And scythe, I think you got my point. But I do not consider myself religious in that I follow no particular dogma. |
