Sensible Caesar: Dies X: The End: Birth of a New Empire: House of Eleven Rings.

Bratia Tertia, like most people, had a decided individual want to survive. As the Imperator of Rome, Gaius Julius Caesar, she had to be a leader to her goals, if only to herself.

Caesar felt that she should plan life after Dies X -- pox-free -- with Caligula Angelicus, the Worker of the Palatine Hill. A loyal supporter from the start of the syzygy, Caligula would have a prominent position in a peaceful Roman Empire.

He came to his study carrying fresh grapes. Caesar and Caligula talked.

"After all of the Gods' notes are crossed, I feel you deserve a great reward for your loyalty, Caligula."

"What does Caesar have in mind? Shall we repopulate Rome the long, hard way?"

"Yes, we are in agreement. Rome will have to be repopulated. I have sent for generals in my provinces to send their best men to each of Rome's Hills. The Legions of Palestine will resettle the Aventine. Those in the Nubian province will take the Caelian, and so on. I recognize that, while a necessary measure, the unnecessary violence that has plagues Rome recently has lost its opportunity to be remembered for a thousand years past our lives. Rome may be great, but it will be forgotten."

"...What about me?"

"Oh, I have something special in mind for you."

"Go on, Caesar."

"From every corner of the Empire, from our allies in Persia and China, and from Brittania and the Hyperboreal Kingdowm will come an army of virgins. I want you to impregnate them at your leisure. They are for you, and only for you. You, my dear Caligula, will repopulate the Palatine Hill. Does this please you?"

"I... I guess... Does Caesar not want an heir?"

Before Caesar could answer, a loud CLASH was heard from the direction of Caligula's bedroom. Tinea Cruris (shizac) stepped out, naked and sexual. He was from the Palatine Hill as well, and had been in love with the Whore of Babylon... He was consoling his death by taking his lover's employment status.

Caesar turned to Caligula, casually withdrawing a sword.

"This nonsense is how you show your loyalty?

"Well, he's dead tomorrow, we'll take his potions then. Harmless fun."

Caesar pondered Caligula's words, pointing his sword at Caligula's head. Subtly, Caesar turned towards Tinea Cruris the Lover, sword following eyes.

Tinea Cruris panicked. He threw money at Caligula. "Protect me! I'll pay!"

Caligula stepped over the denarii coins on the floor. "Bend over, you'll pay."

Nervous, Tinea Cruris lowered his head off of Caligula's adopted bed. Caesar became the butcher and Tinea Cruris the hogshead.

Caligula grabbed an empty wine chalice, collecting the blood of the Lover. Combined with Caesar's vial of Babs' blood, the two remaining Romans figured they would be saved with a sip.

They added wine first.

And so, history had changed. Caesar, who was not supposed to live, survived. The Roman Mob consisted of one very very happy plebeian (and an indetermine number of virgins). Rome was rebuilt with the help of nearby Etruscans, Greeks, farmers, and people from other provinces. The city had its glory days, but the Empire was dead.

The retreating armies forced Caesar to turn safe Roman lands into territorial allies. Most were out of the Empire within 100 years. That was that. Rome couldn't hold power, and the name "Caesar" did not have the meaning one would expect.

The cognomen of the worlds' rulers was not Caesar, Kaiser, nor Czar. The cognomen of choice was now Khan.

But that's another story.

Caesar wins, The Roman Empire is mortally wounded.

The Whore of Babylon played very well, but ultimately loses.

"Wrap!" Context, the Executive Producer of this little movie, had decided that production shall cease on this film. He shook hands with brat3, archangel_2, and shizac, then header to his trailer.

Little Cindy was playing Fallout 3... An impressive feat for a child.

"We're done. Back to LA, Little Cindy!"

"Daddy, that wasn't fun."

"What do you mean?"

"Why did I have to play Caesarion? I mean, he's a boy. Eww! And you were a girl!"

"Hey, I was a girl in drag! I was a girl, walking around as a boy and... It's not important... We're going to lose a lot of money on this movie."

"The European market will supplant any fears about the American moviegoing populace, and is actually more important to mainstream filmmaking than the domestic market. For the added costs of 15-language-subtitling and a European marketing campaign, this branded product should see a four-fold increase in overall revenue, setting your profit margins into the upper tier of this studio's fiscal-year investments."

"Can we get ice cream?"

Cleopatra loses.

archangel_2 went to the catering table. Being the only member of the Roman Mob still around for the wrap, he found himself in a one-person line. Looking at the foods ahead of him, he made one VERY IMPORTANT DECISION.

He chose the fish sticks. archangel_2 wins!

Congratulations. I think it was extremely shrewd to come into the open from the outset. Obviously it was a bit easier given your protections, but I think it might have been tempting to stay cloaked for a bit.

I really did mean it when I said I had taken every possible step to make the game harder on me than it needed to be..

I missed out on getting money for mercenaries by not raising taxes, no one defaulted so I got no legions, my choice of Censure sucked.. (sorry Redemption, you would have been the better choice ;) )

I think we ended up having to kill 12 senators, Marc Antony, Cleopatra, and two Pox Lovers. Luckily both teams lost someone due to inaction, or I think we would have been completely screwed.

No worries :) You did what you should have done, stick to your guns. If you'd promised Context the position originally and then given it to me, I think the Senate would have started calling question to your honesty, and have had a ground for a change :)

And as for killing you on day 1 of next game... not a chance. I firmly believe that prior games should not be taken into account for such actions. It's not sportsmanly.

And finally, very well played. You ever go into politics, you'll have my support :)

I didn't know either. Since I started the game as a spy, I guess I just got stuck in this mindset of me vs Rome. It was a really fun role to play, though, and I did have a good time.

My role seemed to change throughout the game.

I started off as a non-Roman citizen. I got paid from Cleopatra every day, but I believe I won with the mob.
Then you elected me Censura. I'm not really sure what my intentions were there.

Then, on Day 8, I became Cleopatra. I took this as an invitation to try and conquer Rome. And I would have probably gotten away with it if Mopy J had a better voting record, too! (That meddling kid.)

You were originally an Egyptian Non-Roman Citizen, spying for Cleopatra. Well, during this time period, Cleopatra was actually in Rome, but... For game purposes, you couldn't come out of hiding immediately.

When you were elected Censura, you had the choice of playing as a non-Citizen, playing with the Senate, taking the winning condition of the original Censura (slave revolt), or dancing in a circle.

When you were "allowed" to be Cleopatra, Pharaoh of Rome, you could side with Caesar (or Antony, were he alive), or to make a power play for Caesarion's future.

So... Yes.

This is a question, and not sour grapes: Why didn't I win?

1) Here was my objective: "Your goal: Infect all of Rome with the pox. If no living person in Rome does not have the pox, you win."

And in response to a question I posed: "Yes, your death does not prevent your winning conditions..."

So when there were three surviving players, all of whom were poxy, I had understood that I had the win.

2) I infected every surviving player either by PM or by responding to comments in the orgy thread, which I understood to be the means of infection. The orgy is public record. Here are my PMs:

Is sleeping with someone a night action? If so, I'll sleep with Jewbacchus. I'm terribly confused.

1) You did need either you or your lover alive by the time the pox mutated into a deadly form, else it be cured.

2) The infection apparatus during the orgy was not guaranteed... Like having unprotected sex with someone with syphilis will not always give the uninfected person syphilis.

Half of me wanted to tell you that during the night periods, because you were analyzing very throughly. The other half was at work.

I tried to keep the conflict between the senate and Caesar going as long as possible in an effort to maximize my time for infecting people. Tried to infect people who weren't in danger of being mod-killed and who weren't making big targets of themselves. I got some timely assistance from some mod-kills, but I couldn't identify one uninfected person until it was too late.

I still don't understand why we didn't win given that shizac was alive when everyone was infected, unless there was an unstated win condition of surviving to the end of day X, which I suppose is what you are saying.

If I can offer some constructive feedback for all future GMs: As I said, I enjoyed playing very much, but I think a lot of people found this game disorienting. For me it was a bit easier because I at least thought I understood my goals and win-conditions. Turns out I didn't, but that didn't come into play until after I died. I do believe that the extent to which the rules were complex, evolving and opaque created a trifecta of disorientation. If the rules were complex but static, or complex and transparent, you might have had a better reception. As it was, it was pointless to try to figure out the complicated rules because they changed over time. If you wanted an evolving rules system, then some transparency would have eased the impression that you were making it up on the fly. That said, I appreciate all your effort, and the theme and roles were fun and interesting. My .02.
