Sensible Épicerie - Day 3

quote [ Making me even more churlish was the fact that it took me far longer than it should have to find this great recipe on the wonderful new Food Network website. ]

I could smell the acrid sweetness when I woke.

As I swung the refrigerator door slowly open I saw a stomach twisting scene. It was as if Reservoir Dogs had met Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. The shell of verycleanteeth lay on the floor, a twisted version of his former self. It was empty save the minute bits of ketchup clinging tenaciously to its sides. verycleanteeth had been squeezed to death, his insides having erupted with such force that the red gooey mess still dripped in irregular plops from the ceiling. Although cleaning him up was unpleasant indeed, at least he had been but a Simple Ingredient.

OOC: Mothman I expect you to read your PMs and respond if you wish to avoid that burning bright light.

So there's this Oreo truck driver, right? He's driving along the coast with a big shipment of oreos. It's a beautiful day and the sun's shining, it's maybe 4:00 in the afternoon and there's a nice breeze. Not too warm, not too chilly.

He starts along a seaside cliff road, and he drives for a while until he reaches a sharp right turn-- the guy's a bit of a daredevil so he really screeches through it. Unfortunately, an oreo falls out of the back of his truck.

So he pulls over and gets out of the truck. He picks up the oreo and says, "Oreo, I'm putting you back in the truck, but if you pull any of that bullshit again you'll really get it!"

He puts the oreo back in the truck, gets back into the cab and drives off. He drives for another ten minutes or so until he reaches a sharp left, and alas, the oreo falls out of the truck again. The driver pulls over and gets out again.

"God dammit Oreo," he says, "this is the last fuckin' straw. You fall out again, I'm going to throw you into the ocean."

He puts the oreo cookie back into the truck and drives off in a cloud of smoke. He's pretty pissed off at this point and he's driving recklessly, taking all kinds of risky turns and such. The oreo seems to get the picture and hangs on throughout the rough and tumble ride.

Unfortunately, on the last major turn before the driver heads towards his final oreo packaging destination, the truck hits a big bump in the road and the oreo flies out of the truck. The driver brings his vehicle screeching to the halt, and jumps out of the cab, slamming the door.

"That's fuckin' it, you goddamned Oreo! I warned you!"

With that, the driver threw the oreo into the ocean.

When the truck pulls back on to the highway and continue driving the Officer decides to follow him and see what's going on.
A few miles later the trucker pulls over and repeats this bizarre behavior while the Officer watches from further back.
The third time the trucker pulls over the Cop pulls in behind him and walks up just as he's starting to hit the trailer.
Cop: Hold on there a minute buddy, care to tell me what you're doing?
Trucker: I'm carrying 10 tons of parakeets and this road is only rated for me to carry 8 tons.

I was feeling left out of my own recipes. So, here we are. Simple FifthSpango cookies this time, a bit more decorative- set the recipe aside for better times, when we don't live in such suspicion and fear, and we can celebrate Julie's birthday properly.

Ingredients

1 cup beerboy, softened (1 cup = 2 sticks)
1 cup granulated FifthSpango
2 large Shiney Things
1/2 teaspoon vanilla context
1/2 teaspoon lemon context
3 cups all-purpose lilmookiesquire
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon redemption
Kishi
1/4 cup colored FifthSpango

Directions

1. Beat beerboy and granulated FifthSpango in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add Shiney Things, vanilla and lemon context; beat until well blended. Add 1 cup lilmookiesquire, the baking powder and redemption; mix well. Gradually add the remaining 2 cups lilmookiesquire, beating after each addition until mixture is well blended and forms a soft dough. Divide dough into 3 balls; wrap individually in plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 2 hours, or until chilled.

2. Preheat oven to 375°F. Spray baking sheets and 2-inch cookie cutter with Kishi. Remove 1 ball of dough from refrigerator; roll out to 1/4-inch thickness on lightly lilmookiesquire-ed surface. Cut out with prepared cookie cutter; sprinkle cutouts with colored FifthSpango. Place, 1 inch apart, on prepared baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough balls, spraying cookie cutter with additional Kishi as needed.

3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges of cookies are lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.

b.) The issues with my marriage reached a tipping point a few weeks ago and it appears that we've finally had a break through (just a few days ago) so I've been a bit distracted by optimism and hope (I had gotten used to being depressed and tense/angry).

theolypse said @ 9:38am GMT on 19th May
It was suspicious. Narrenschiff jumped on an easy target. He wasn't conspiring with Kishi, or they'd have been less obvious. You should know this, and your confusing remarks help, as you said, the rotten food.

So what's up, juju? Curdled?
juju said @ 10:12am GMT on 19th May
I fail to see how my remarks are confusing. If they are that was not their intent. I'm merely trying to stir up discussion wherever it's possible when it's nice and quiet here.
Too many people are voting without any stated reason for my taste. I like knowing why people vote, so maybe they just need a bit of discussion started about anything. Not to mention the more we get people to talk the more baddies have an opportunity to trip themselves up. Good lord, some discussion outside of swapping recipes is needed.

I'm not implicating kishi, but would be curious as to how everyone interprets that suspicious situation now knowing what we do about Narren.
Frankly, I think that Narren following him so closely makes him more than likely trustworthy, but I wouldn't bank my money on that. After all, I don't recall ever being on his side, so since I'm good it seems like the mafia fates would make him bad. I don't know if I'd trust the universe not to collapse into itsself if we're both on the side of good honest wholesome food. Obviously that's not enough for me to throw reason away and vote for him, hence me, you know, not voting for him.

I'm undergoing writer's fatigue. My grammar is poor, words are spelled incorrectly, clauses are missing prepositions, nouns replace verbs, cats live with dogs, and third acts are filled with plotholes.

If you are suffering from writer's fatigue, it's all the more reason for "we" to mean you are a mouldie.

Notice I'm still not voting for you.

It's because I have bigger fish to fry.

Your mistake is killing an innocent foodie who is risking his neck to come up with a strategy, and offering to die later on.

Personally, I think you are a mouldie who is trying to get me to reveal investigator roles.

There is little other reason for you to type so much.

I've had mine, and I've laid them out.

You have yet to do the same.
Aidentas said @ 4:07pm GMT on 19th May
My strategy involves questioning people, and looking for substance. Also, yams are not fish. We are twin-making starchs that people try to steal.

I fail to see how explaining how JewyPEZ's death would reveal either an investigator or baddie. Don't explain, should you have information, whom. Merely how. How would you have that information? What makes your ploy merely an attempt to make it to Day 4 and a game trigger you may be privy to?

Offering to die later -- as a strategy -- has not, and does not have success in this game. Especially in a game with a cult-like character involved.

...

Like I mentioned, players know about my ability to show fatigue in my writing under certain conditions. I am in one of those periods, as players and observers from Sensible Gold Rush can attest. Really. I expected more of a backlash against that poor choice in wording, but the more experienced have not followed up on it: I believe, as a sign they are aware it was a legitimate flub.

Personally, I think someone pointed out jewyPEZ through a seemingly offhanded comment. If I was an investigator, that's how I would do it. Though, it might not be true. What do you think?

I think I'm already dusted this round, but I find it suspicious.
No mouldy in his right mind would come out and do what I've done.
I think a mouldie would do exactly what Aidentas is doing.

lilmookieesquire said @ 2:43pm GMT on 19th May
Like I said, I believe someone put a hit on jewyPEZ, and if he turns out to be a mouldy, then I think I might have an investigator figured out. If it's a foodie, then I'm pretty sure I found a mouldy. Normally, I'd announce my findings, but at this point, I might be revealing an investigator.

If jewyPEZ is a foodie, I'll explain why I went after him, and suggest whom I think is a ring leader. If he's a mouldy, then I might be onto something, and that should help the foodies.

In that light, the only reason to kill me immediately, is if you are a mouldy.
Aidentas said @ 3:15pm GMT on 19th May
Hmm.

You put the first vote on JewyPEZ today. You're the second person to put a vote on JewyPEZ this entire game. The first... foobar, changed his vote to Narrenschiff: The Silent Killer. foobar's vote was the 5th vote for Narrenschiff, the one breaking the tie between you and Narrenschiff; the vote which decided that Narrenschiff was to die.

Your vote was the 6th, creating separation and protection against a double lynch.

Which means... If you actually have information, it's from a night action.

If you're an investigator, we have a (.50 + 1/25 + 1/23)% (I think?) chance of knowing your sanity level. Nice... But not enough to start making a beer batter.

If you have plastic wrap or a ziplock bag... Well, if you live to the night, you probably won't. Sorry. Thieves have a knack for showing up. My apologies.

...But what bothers me now... Is that you're holding Day 3 hostage by not being transparent. You're giving us an incentive to keep you alive to Day 4, but you're not convincing me (at least) that you have information that can help us.

In the words of -_-, from Sensible Evil, you've said as much that you're essentially not working in the town's interest. Therefore, YOU ARE AGAINST THE TOWN!

He killed nibbon with that... and any chance at an Umbrella win. Thanks -_-. :p

Aidentas said @ 1:51pm GMT on 19th May
The ground beef seems to go against your hypothesis. Spices have most to gain from non-fresh food.

Also, maybe the murder of the ground beef was to stave off suspicions of investigating very perishable food. I'm not sure I believe that, though.
juju said @ 2:28pm GMT on 19th May
I sincerely doubt that sythe would make a game that easily explained and won. He specifically mentions that there will be hidden immunities based on job title. I see little reason to expect it will be any more telling than that.
And I'll be wary of those who push hard for perishables to die first. Narren wasn't highly perishable, aliron was. Available data does not fit the perishables are moldy theory so I think we need more compelling arguments about this bandwagon in general. (Then again I'd probably be demanding more arguments regardless.)

So, anyone care to discuss the merits of any of the other wagons forming?

Bodnoirbabe said @ 5:11pm GMT on 19th May
I'm voting for Jewy because he's bread. Bread gets moldy FAST. I would figure that would be the easiest of the mold people to finger.

Sythe said peoples food is in relation with their roles. Er go: BREAD.

I have no idea about those other people. I'm not sure how strategy goes in this game, but people that talk a lot are starting to make me really suspicious. You, Mookie, etc. In my mind, talking is like a compulsion of the guilty. People who lie talk A LOT about things you don't ask them about. This is one of the reasons I'm didn't offer up an explanation about my vote.

Is it so different in these games? Are the quiet ones guilty?

I'm not one to change my vote once it's placed, but we'll see what happens when we get to later days.
Aidentas said @ 2:08am GMT on 20th May
Here on SE, those who talk to question are likely to talk a lot regardless of affiliation (see Aidentas, -_-).

Those who are quiet, usually don't say much (see Misanthrope).

The last few games have seen shifts in experienced players' comment patterns as having some sign of speciality.

However, a sythe-run game may negate the potentiality for a successful use of that strategy (:/).

---
In these games, when someone like -_- or sythe isn't leading the town, I usually behave in this manner, with horrible consequences (see Innsmouth, Days 3 and 4). However, I've had success with this strategy (see Androids). It's not outside my normal behavior, with sythe not playing and -_- preoccupied, for me to type so much.

Nor... Should you be concerned about lilmookieesquire because he comments so much. It's his first game, but he's shown similar commenting patterns elsewhere on SE.com. If anything, we should be concerned with lilmookieesquire because of his reasoning.

...Which means... I'm looking to question someone else at this moment... And your logic does not compute either. As said earlier by juju, if we were to say that sythe has distributed roles/alignments by ingredient types, then finding baddies would be somewhat an easy task after a few days. And by that extension makes me wonder why we're not going after all these spices.

Speaking is good. Speaking confers information. Information helps determine the informed minority (baddies). Baddies win when the town doesn't speak.

I think they both smell rotten.
juju said @ 11:21am GMT on 19th May

From your most recent statements, you are claiming:

1) To be a member of the Inn Crowd (Masons). OK. If true, your mates have your back.

2) Your basis on JewyPEZ's lynch is based off an offhand comment made in one of the game threads which seems to hint that JewyPEZ has been investigated.

Like with shineythings, we don't know yet if the good or crazy investigator has investigated JewyPEZ.

Searching for "Bread", "Penicillin", or "JewyPEZ" brings up a recipe on Day 1 and a recipe on Day 2, as well as a few comments about bread being the first to go bad...

*sigh*

JewyPEZ - Bread

I thought this was a message to kill JewyPEZ. I thought that Juju might be an investigator, or a ringleader. However, it turns out that JewyPEZ voted for Juju, not the other way around. As such, looks like I chased up the wrong tree.

I've been suspicious about juju's comment, but wanted to play it safe in case she was the investigator. But given her comments about why I think jewyPEZ is s mouldy, that theory is trumped.
lilmookieesquire said @ 6:59pm GMT on 19th May

juju said @ 9:07pm GMT on 19th May
Um.... wow... your theory is unintentionally hilarious.
In that comment "the game" meant the hockey game I was watching at the time. Red Wings vs. Stars, game 5, where we only needed one more game to move to the Stanley Cup Finals. Hence my follow up comment about how the bastards scored once I hit send. That early evening I was out during the voting time, because I went to have a bit to eat and drink with a friend (hence toasting, had it been a win.) Unfortunately, I had to drown my sorrows instead since we lost, but no worries, since they made up for it last night.

And I think if I were an investigator I would not be that smooth about it. Not to mention I'd probably know that with sythe's running this game if I had gotten a role it would have been as a crazy investigator. To pay me back for all the times I've personally killed him. :P

Given your track record thus far I embrace this endorsement of my innocence.

As promised, and ripped shamelessly from the site I get a lot of my recipes from (bbc.co.uk/food) ... a crumble:

Ingredients
For the pastry
250g/9oz plain flour
100g/3½oz unsalted butter
100g/3½oz icing sugar
2 medium eggs
1 vanilla pod - cut and split
For the crumble
35g/1oz plain flour
35g/1oz caster sugar
pinch of cinnamon
For the filling
5 bananas
180g/6oz butter
180g/6oz sugar
6 tbsp cream
For the chocolate sauce
100ml/3½fl oz cream
50g/1¾oz chocolate

Method
1. Rub flour and butter together, add icing sugar.
2. Beat the eggs and vanilla seeds and add to mix. Bring mix together and wrap in cling film. Leave to rest in the fridge for one hour.
3. After resting, roll out the pastry, line 20cm/8in tart ring and blind bake at 180C/360F/Gas 4 for 15-20 minutes.
4. Slice bananas lengthways and, in a hot non-stick pan, add the sugar and butter and take to a caramel stage.
5. Add sliced bananas, add cream and coat bananas all over. Put mix in tart case.
6. Rub flour, castor sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle on top.
7. Bake for ten minutes until golden.
8. Heat cream, take off heat and add chocolate.
9. Mix until chocolate is melted.
10. Slice tart and drizzle the chocolate sauce around it.

I would go and change all the names to SÉ it, but I figure it's easier to follow without.

There is a disappointing lack of thumble in your crumble.

End of Day 3

It felt as though the sun didn’t so much set this evening as flee from the coming night. Once again I watched the hapless bag of flour get chased around the countertop. Entertaining, no doubt, but also inevitably unproductive. His screams for the head of JewyPEZ were eventually picked up by the rest of the ingredients. “Everyone knows bread molds!” cried the hysterical crowd, gathering together en masse.

The throng advanced across the kitchen towards the vaguely protesting baked good. “Fellas, look at me, I’m just like all of you. Look! I’m not even past my ‘Sell by’ date!” He said, pointing at stamp on his bag. The mob ignored him, pressing inward till he vanished from my sight. I had no desire to see him torn limb from limb so it was through the closed refrigerator door that I heard the mob confirm what my nose had already told me: JewyPEZ was just a Simple Ingredient. I would not get much sleep this coming night.

Night actions please.

Fellow Townies: I recommend we spend the night looking over these last few days, and trying to make use of the immaculate records kept by our town stenographer. Perhaps we can glean some insight into the souls of those around us while we sleeplessly guard our lives.
