quote [ Exiting the steamship, the passengers -- all quite entrepreneurial folk from the eastern half of the continent -- gasped in awe. The bustling future metropolis they had been promised a share of was nothing more than grasslands, drylands, and unsturdy soils. The mining area further upriver, in the Sierra Nevada mountains, was no better. This was home... This was home? ]
"Well, I'll be..." whispered one of the well-to-do passengers, "it's perfect." The other passengers looked at him with confusion. "It's absolutely perfect. I can see it now. Mansions for every man here, farmlands out in the country, irrigation channels dug from the American River, laundry done uptown and whorehouses downtown, safety for the ladies and children, and security for us all. My friends, this is heaven! Gold and a Mediterranean climate; it's the American Dr..."
[mafia game] [by Jewbacchus@9:20amGMT] [+10 Good] POW! The well-to-do man fell to the ground in agony. He was as dead as a dog's nose is wet. Steamship passengers, too frozen in terror to help, rob, or faint, looked up from the dead man into the chambers of two pistols. "I'm Big Richard! And in the memory of my little brother, this land is no Sensible City! No, no no no... This land is Li'l Peter's Land. That gold out in the American River is Li'l Peter's gold. And no government man and no business man is going to take that from us." "So go pray to the Franciscans, and get back in yer covered wagons, and get back in yer steamships, and get back on yer horses, and ride on back to wherever it is y'all came from. That ain't no warning." Many fled, looking to Oregon or Mexico as a possible home, but a few brave souls decided to stick around, and see if they can't get for them and theirs. Player List Leezurd - Monocle Purveyor shizac - Card Player tamp - Wagon Train Leader mos - Mayor jhvh1 - Steamship Captain theolypse - Spanish Aristocrat mego - Farmer JewyPEZ - Horse Whisperer foglai - Shopkeeper graham - Adventurist duncs - Blacksmith sociology_boy - Southern Belle Amul Muzz - Animal Tracker Todomanna - Oregonian Carpenter eightysix - Barber Eon Bleu - Banker beerboy - Liquor Proprietor --- "OK, I have my orders, I've signed up for my google groups, I see the Day 1 post... Now what?" Now... You discuss. You get into character, and you try to figure out who's a baddie. You also comment with humorous photos, make awkward passes, and generally have yourselves a bit of light mayhem. Have fun! --- If you think you know who a baddie is, you go to the voting thread and you type: I vote to lynch Aidentas. Use HTML now, not BBCode. You don't have to say "lynch" either; any gruesome death will do. --- At the end of the day, we'll tally votes, and the person (or persons) with the highest vote tally gets killed... ...And then we go to the night, where the Cowboys get to talk in their google group, and Big Richard, the Prospectors and Outlaw go to theirs. Honestly, you guys can visit the google groups during the day period too. The Following Roles Have Night Actions: Big Richard and the Prospectors - Night Kill Outlaw - Night Kill Ranch "Hands" - Protection Sheriff - (Limited) Night Kill --- Few more things: 1) Discuss! Talk! Be Merry! This game is a game; it's no fun if you stay silent. 2) No PM'ing. That means IRC and phone calls too. 3) Vote every day. Even if it's a "no vote". 4) Has anyone seen sythe's pants? |

I suggest we tear the truth from mos' testicles, where it hides from the light. One learns things, in the courts of royalty, and chief among them is that schemers and conspirators must make friends in the highest places they may. If Big Richard has any sense at all, he has subverted the political operators here toward his own ends. Also, this town being without a skilled politician will make it easier for me to come into power and acquire by taxing what would be entirely too much work to prospect for. ...What? You were all thinking it; I might as well admit it. |

I would also like to remind everyone about the irc channel on Espernet. If you need a client, mIRC is the basic choice, I believe, and there's also the java client at the Espernet website. Currently JewyPEZ is working on a mafia bot that will hopefully streamline things, and allow logging, so that we can use the channel for discussion. This is the last time I'll bug anyone about it (this game). Though I'd probably be less inclined to spam this if more than one person joined the channel whenever I did :P Again, the channel is #semafia on irc://irc.esper.net , hope to see you there :D |

I apologize for not making it clearer, I tend to constantly change my sentences in order to make them as clear as possible, unfortunately forgetting to replace a word or two, thus making it even more confusing. What I meant was that it's best to only post votes in the voting thread, so the GM (or GMs as they case occasionally is) can more easily tally them once the clock reaches zero. |

right. and here's me thinking a script was involved. Thanks for caring, though. |
|
Todomanna
said @ 2:21pm GMT on 21st Apr
Currently the script requires that the person who made the original post be the one to post the voting thread. Obviously you can go with older scripts that work differently, but neither are infallible, and it certainly makes it easier to check when people don't post random things in the thread. I'm sorry if I came off sounding like a know it all, trying to boss people around, but my theory of life is it's better to tell someone something that they might not need to know, than to not tell them when they do. |

Version 1.04 of the Voting Script can be downloaded from here. You need to be using FireFox for this script to work. This version is a minor bug-fix to allow games where the original poster didn't create the voting thread. Select any of the original poster's comments as the voting thread, and then tell the script to Forget the location of the Voting Thread. You can then choose any comment as the voting thread. Sorry for the cheat-code like method - I thought that this situation would virtually never happen. |
