Do Androids Dream of Electric Sugar Plums? - Day 10 - The End

quote [ ...causes generalized hypoxia, which primarily affects the tissues and organs most sensitive to hypoxia first, such as the brain, hence resulting in cerebral... ]

Woo! Credits to sythe for the proper headline.

It was one of those odd mornings where the sun shone brightly through a cloudy sky while the wind flew by in intermittent rushes as if there was some secret rendezvous that it was nearly late for. The town had been changed drastically since the reception of the message a little over a week ago. Face’s mysterious death had left the settlement eerily silent without their town crier/plastic surgeon; the murders, riots and nuclear explosions of the previous days had turned what was once a peaceful space village into a subtle parody of civilization itself.

By noon the sky was fully overcast and an occasional mist of rain came down to dampen those standing by the polluted fountain in the main square. A few of the townspeople were missing, but this was typical of them: a select few residents seemed to believe that the best defense against renegade androids was silence, and these individuals had spent most of their time locked inside their houses.

Awesome Club members both past and present gathered with the known mercers near the town hall. The townies were quiet, sharing an odd sense of solemn profundity. It seemed that something important was about to happen—a listed side effect of the Apprehension brand water from Graham’s store but nevertheless the crowd stood around expectantly.

Minutes passed, and many shuffled their feet about, turning their heads about. The crowd resembled a battalion of slow roosters. Wispy blankets of rain continued to fall, and the sun gave he town an occasional glance through the cracks in the grey ceiling of clouds.

A distant shout came from outside the town square, and then again closer. Philistine came tearing through the plaza, screaming like a stuck air horn.

“Androids!” he gasped, falling to his knees and curtailing his cries to speak to the crowd. “They’re after me! In broad daylight!”

In the distance three figures became visible. Philistine struggled to his feet and loped off in the opposite direction. SirYumYum, cardinal and saranated flew into the plaza armed with blunt objects.

“Get back here, ya dirty fuckin’ andy!” cried saranted. They continued after him, and the townspeople followed.

Wheeling about Onan Village, the peculiarity of the situation was apparent. Android kills typically happened at night, and town lynches didn’t often occur at the drop of a hat. The whole thing was entirely out of the ordinary.

The citizens finally caught up with the four runners at the base of a cliff where they found Philistine bludgeoned to death and SirYumYum, cardinal and saranated mysteriously dead with no signs of injury. Puzzled, they sent marrow samples to the lab for immediate analysis. Androids, all of them.

With that, the night killings ended at the settlement of Onan. The days gradually began to resemble regular living. The Awesome Club was ceremonially absorbed into the Order of Mercer, and a monument was built for Caffeine. The tow halves of Snowfox were successfully reunited with minimal wear and tear to either side, though her dancing was never quite the same. Graham’s sugar-preserved corpse was propped up at the convenience store counter and the establishment became a community regulated trading post. With funds from sales of shineythings’s jewelry, a Face and Nympho Memorial Hospital for Paranoids and Sex Addicts was erected with a nearby wall commemorating those lost to the Andy Days.

It appeared to be over, but the townspeople never did sleep the same at night. Nobody was really sure if the replicant had been found or not. Some aberration of programming, an unchecked shipment of cargo from earth—well, these were concerns for the daytime. There wasn’t much that could be done anyhow. After all, in the end, it was all electric.

TOWNIES WIN.

Damn! What a ride, and finished under 10 days. How nice. For the record folks, there was no intended correlation between jobs and roles. If you guys were paying close attention, you would have noticed that my first posted player list was unalphabetized and lacked any jobs whatsoever. After noticing my mistake, I churned out a quick list of jobs, and for the handles that didn’t inspire any obvious occupation, I picked something practical. All roles were assigned through the help of a randomizer.

I’m pretty sorry that so many of the androids turned out to be quitters and slackers(I’m not talking about those androids who did stay active, you know who you are). I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: the game was balanced from the start, and the mass exodus of a number of key androids was what shoved it to a town win. You can also blame Caffeine’s clever playing for the townie win, though. The Really Charismatic Guy wasn’t nearly as balanced as I hoped it would be because Caffeine lucked out and invited a mutant on the first night. Not my fault! That’s just the way the game ran.

I’d like to apologize again to those who feel that my posts have been intrusive to SE, and also to those who feel that my GMing has been less than good. I do my best. More importantly, however, I’d like to thank everyone who’s been playing this and watching this—you’ve made it all possible! Give yourselves a hand. Really though, thanks for playing. Fun times.

Id like to make a suggestion in the event that somebody feels like running another one of these: Mandatory Voting.
I know we all get annoyed by those people who join up but don't play, and it's a pain in the ass to keep track of who's not talking and then organize people into lynching the stupid silent types. So anybody who doesn't publicly vote in the lynch for two consecutive game days is killed by the GM. Easy enough to keep track of, and makes sure people keep talking/participating. Of course life doesn't always agree, so anybody who knows they have to miss a day or two should let us know in advance.

Caffeine said @ 11:04am GMT on 11th Jul
Aidentas and Context are correct. We didn't have a central communication center, like the Mercers or the Androids, so I'll try to explain and answer any questions anyone has. We communicated entirely through PMs, and all information was to go through me. This was for damage control, in the event that we invited an android.
I thought of every member as a sleeper cell, and distributed plans and directives accordingly.
From day one, this was my vision of the end game. From playing the last game, I knew that information was the greatest weapon we could have... we would set up a block of confirmed innocents, unite with the Mercers, and dominate the end game. We actually ended up being slightly more visible than I'd intended, in part due to the "Cult" paranoia, but in the end things worked out.
We orchestrated the lynch on Day 3 and Day 5, and swayed it to our candidate of choice on Days 6 and 7. Day 7 was our poorest guess, in that we'd fingered Kimota. Whoops! We rectified the mistake, though. And by the time I finally died in Day 8, it was far too late. The end game had already been set up for a townie win. We had an accurate list of suspects and everyone knew what to do.
Or so I thought.
When I saw the Mercers trying to lynch the members of the Awesome Club I was immensely confused, but oddguy cleared that up and paved the way for a win. I'm still kind of curious what was going on there.

I'll be honest-- here's my line of thought.

1. Hey, what if there was some way to balance out the no-pms style of Capnsilver and the go-wild-with-pms style of kimota?
2. Maybe someone can recruit people to pm with. I guess he'd be a leader type, charismatic if you will.
3. This is a pretty balanced character since he can't investigate, but let's just make the androids more populous, just to be safe.
4. To be even safer, I'm going to reduce the number of special townies in reference to the Capnsilver game, 'cause the RCG is a special townie.
5. To be safest, I'm going to reduce the mercer population from my original intention by one.
6. Oh, and let's make the nuclear heart take out everyone who votes for 'em, but only 2 androids from the already inflated android population.

And that's how the game was "balanced". Don't forget that the androids could have potentially pulled wacky stuff with the replicant character had only they found him before the Nexus quit. I'm not going to claim perfection, but I tried my best to balance it.

101 .... that's kind of where I was on it too.
By the time snowfox called for me to be lynched I was using the A.C. as a diversion to entice the androids so they might stop killing investigators for long enough to get the Nympho into some protection , but then I had to use it as a means of discrediting the person who was both a professed member of the A.C. and calling for my lynching ... snowfox.
I figured that if snowfox got lynched (at that point she was just a townie ... and could no longer be fully trusted because of the A.C. link) the Nympho might come forward and the protectors could focus on him.
My main concern was that the androids were way too good at killing investigators at that point.

Hell, if I had been the RCG (and stayed alive) I would have waited until I had a majority of townies in the A.C. and then gone cult with it to win the game .... an option that Narrenschiffs in depth explanation of the RCG rules absolutely allowed for.

...Caffeine played very well. Context too. Good game, everyone. Good night, Seattle.

heh, I've got no idea. I figured at first that you were just trying to vote for people who you figured couldn't be mercers rather than looking for androids, but after thinking about it some more, low commenters? basic survival?

I was sure of SirYumYum being an android on Day 1. Don't remember why though. After that though, I just wanted to have the worst voting record possible. I thought I was helping by being a hindrance to the Town's goals.

Yeah, I think there's a post somewhere on the android forum about how you couldn't be a mercer/mutant due to your horrible voting.

Good tip.

You do realize don't you that if we could bottle your sexual frustration we .... oops, never mind ..... you're not bottling it are you?

I sat next to Cate Blanchett at a Pinkberry (disgustingly artificial Japanese-y soft-serve type place) a month or so ago.

She's hot. She had her rugrat and mate (husband? boyfriend? man who planted his seed in her belly?) with her.

For people just hanging out in this thread, signups for the next game have begun here.

My apologies to both the town people and my fellow androids for not being involved as much as I'd have liked to be, it was unfair to both sides. These damn 'work' and 'real life' things kept getting in the way. With that in mind, I won't be playing in any of the future games until I work out a way to have nothing to do and make money doing it.

Thanks for the game, for the parts that I did participate in (though there weren't many) I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Congratulations to the townies for their win :)

I thought the androids won this morning.

Whenever I see a post from carrotboi, I can't help but imagine him as British Politician and Mayor-of-London hopeful, Boris Johnson. If you haven't come across this man before, check out his Public Persona. His life is full of things like 'While nearing the end of his timed lap, he failed to realise that he had accidentally pressed the horn with his arm. After hearing the noise he looked around puzzled and said, "Who hooted at me?"'
