So, huh - isn't that illegal? Not that that would stop me, but still - is this the direction we want SE to take? |

Well, I think your question boils down to this; can Jesus microwave a burrito so hot that even he couldn't eat it? This is my first post - and I'm pretty sure that posting directly to a torrent link is OK on SE (if that was your query). I know alot of people who're having a hard time finding the torrent (Moore has been quite vocal of his approval of free distribution - he'll make millions regardless) Originally I found it on CHOMSKY TORRENTS http://www.chomskytorrents.org |

Aaaaaaactually, I'm pretty sure that "hotlinking," which I might add is what you've done, is NOT okay. But you are right about the "torrents are okay on SE" just by looking at the sheer number of "torrent posts" we have here on SE. Better start posting some porn there bud. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, SE'ers, but hotlinking is wrong since it leeches bandwidth off of a poor, unsuspecting sap with now acknowledgment. This torrent is 13.8kb, so even if it became immensely popular, it wouldn't effect the hosts bandwidth. Given the files extremely small size, I see no problem with this. I'd edit the comments to mention Chomsky Torrents explicitly just to be nice though. |

As much as Moore's style makes him out to be the Left's Rush Limbaugh, I do admire the guy for publicly and repeatedly stating that he has no problem with his films being downloaded as long as no one profits. |

Moore's style doesn't make him out to be the Left's Rush Limbaugh. Right wing pundits are trying to make him out to be a lesser demon from the 8th pit of hell. |

Well, he isn't openly insulting to people, and he doesn't invent nicknames for people with whom he disagrees. That, and the fact, that the little tricks he does pull are actually funny because there has to be a little truth in jest. |

I'd argue that first point. I think he can be (and is) openly insulting to people as long as they're on the other side of the argument. It's just that you're agreeing with his point so his condescension and derision is acceptable. He does use clips out of context (most notably the Heston 'take this gun from my cold dead hands' bit in Bowling, which Moore insinuated occured at the NRA meeting in Denver just after Columbine, but in reality it occurred years earlier at his re-election as NRA president), and he's a master of leaving out valid content that undermines his point (this bothers me especially, considering that most of the time the context wouldn't invalidate his point but merely make it less shocking). I admire Moore's passion and motives, but I do think he (along with Rush) don't do anything but lower the level of discourse and make it easier for the other side to just disregard them. |

the "little tricks he pulls" are deceitful lies and they aren't little. while i agree with many of his causes, the way he presents them misleads deliberately. moore isn't as much of a coward or a bully as limbaugh nor is he a hypocrit like limbaugh. but he is a rank, obvious, transparent liar, inasmuch as he makes it seem that people are meaning to say something they don't. he also misrepresents what actually happened at and during events. he does all of this with artful, skilled editing and clip selection. anybody without a conscience can do that-- moore is just better at it and more vicious with it than most. that type of tactic is unnecessary, unconscionable, and despicable and moore does it consistently in the films i've seen, most flagrantly in Farentheit 911. what amazes me is that people are so gullible, they believe moore's film tell the actual truth. then again, it shouldn't amaze me because most people still believe in a man the sky myth of some sort, in every imaginable kind of "old wives' tales", in magical explanations, in advertising, in political campaigns, in short, they fall for misleading well packaged crap like moore puts out, especially if, like his, it's sarcastic, arrogant and somewhat comical. |

Moore's previous films have manipulated facts, interviews, and situations to exaggerate claims. I think that he's on the right side of history, but that doesn't mean I have to accept what's really just propaganda as good work. I can't accuse the US left of a lack of introspection, but try looking at the films critically. That he's so high profile makes it worse for those of us with the same ideas. |

His style doesn't make him out to be the left's Rush Limbaugh, the fact that he takes somewhat unrelated facts and statistics and bends and warps them to his purpose makes him out to be the left's Rush Limbaugh. And the fact that he's fat and obnoxious, but that's besides the point. Honestly, I pretty much wear my social liberalism on my sleeve. I wish Moore would dissapear because he gives the intelligent right minority ample flawed material to use to pick on liberals. It promotes and furthers a stigma that the right has against the left and chases away a lot of fence riders. |

just a few of the myriad internet sites that point out moore's duplicitous and self serving rank lies with varying degrees of objectivity and success and hell, it's a lot of work to do that and you don't, like moore, get paid well to do it: spinsanity link which contains more links to moore mistakes and bias. 2004 critique of fF911 in national review. youtube clip about sicko, annoying style, generally valid message. you tube 38 second response by fred thompson. silly but funny. there's so much more refutation and rebuttal of moore's antics on the web but then again, finding all that shit takes time. |

Reader's Digest Version: spinsanity link - wtf - too much flaming to figure out where to start reading, or why. 2004 critique of fF911 in national review: Pretty good. Moore clearly skewed facts to attack Bush. Some left wing politicians even repeated his incorrect facts in public. That is the bigged punchline of the article. POLITICIANS USING SKEWED INFORMATION FOR THEIR OWN AGENDAS? Youtube clip about Sicko: generally valid about what? It was complete wankery about communism, not socialized medicine. Fred Thompson clip: Silly and funny (since he's smoking a cigar that's probably cuban) but not really relevant to anything. There's a lot of rebuttal out there, but Moore's infotainment is much more infotaining. MOORE WINS. |

I might be more likely to upmod if you included some information about the quality of the video, say, is it theater quality? Is it DVD quality? Is it VHS quality? Is it actually a video of your testicles? I might be willing to watch any of these, if you told me. But now, I'm just all kinds of skeptical about this. |
