SENSIBLE HOWLING - JUDGEMENT HAS FALLEN

quote [ It was time to end it all. Solitude and thumble dragged the priest into the church, pushed him inside his confessionary, chained the door and set fire to the wooden box. Father v21 kept on screaming for almost half an hour before he stopped. The fine chapel's wine helped the fire grow stronger.

Then they took the charred remains of the holy man and cut his head off with a knife. It was the moment of truth.

The full moon is on the sky. ]

The final revelation in the extended.

Lovely Lupensbrusch. Roling hills, towering mountains, wonderous woods. All meant nothing without townsmen to admire it. And slowly but certainly they had been massacred by the wolves. Here are the events so far.

Prologue
Day One
Day Two
Day Three
Day Four
Day Five
Day Six
Day Seven
Day Eight
Day Nine
Day Ten

When v21 had been lynched on the last day, the remaining two went to look for the Necromancer. Alas he had been killed that night as well. If the alpha was still alive the remaining townsman would die that night and the villagers would have lost.

The moon was rising. The final judgement was upon them.

Thumble went home that night fearing his decision might have been the wrong one. Just to be certain he barricaded his house and gathered his old weapons from his glory days.

I was at that time however preparing something entirely different. Sharpening my claws for the final kill. Yes I am a filthy goddamn werewolf! And sure, I was thankful for thumble trusting me and letting me live for so long, however, a man... sorry wolf's gotta eat.

Barricading himself in his home made it difficult for me to get in. However we still had wine and matches left from when we burned v21, and the barricade proved very effective for keeping people in as well. I grinned and muttered "Instant Barbeque" to myself. After a while the burning silouet of Thumble came crashing through a window though. As he rolled over the grass the flames went out. He was a lot tougher than I had thought.

He pulled a knife from one of his boots and charged me. Gave me quite a few cuts and bruises too, but fortunately nothing critical. The fight lasted for almost an hour, and eventhough thumble was badly hurt, he still had more energy in him than I had imagined possible for such an old man.

I guess now it's time to pack my bags. Perhaps move to the big city, get a couple of new recruits, who knows. I have a lot to thank the thorners for, so maybe I'll even get me a bite of king. Well at least in this town, I'm done.

If you guys are wondering what happened over the course of the nights I'll post the killmessages I sent to kimota in the comments below. Also THANKS kimota for such an awesome game on SE.

Night one:

After careful consideration we the werewolves have chosen to feast on the festering flesh of Mouse the handyman. May he rest in pieces.
solitude said @ 9:51pm GMT on 9th May
Night Two:

Today we'll be showing you how to prepare a werewolf favorite. Human stew.

Ingredients:
- 1 badgerbaiter
- 1 slice of lemon
- olive oil
- parsley
- Peper (in a pepermill)

Heat up a skillet, whilst striping the skin and hairs of the still breathing badgerbaiter. You may kill him if you like, but I prefer watching his agony. Then cut from the tender parts (arms, chest, upper legs) in thin slices. Avoid parts such as the liver, we can make lovely meatsicles from them. Grind some fresh peper over the slices and quickly seal the meat by frying in hot olive oil. Place the meat on a plate with a twist of lemon and add some parsley for garnishing. Best served with fermented mouse-blood.
zombadgerbaiter said @ 11:40pm GMT on 9th May
Was I served with a nice chianti?
solitude said @ 12:08am GMT on 10th May
Well we had the dead mouse laying around, so we just drank a bit of his blood. Was a bit bitter though. A chianti might have been nicer.

Night Three:

That night howling sounds were heard from the woods. A chill went through the townsmen as they filled up the night. The wolves we're mourning for their packmember. And they were after revenge.

The first to cry wolf was Endopol and what better way to thirst their bloodlust than to repay him for his favor.

They entered his house, and first gnawed off part of his face. Only the sound of gurgling while Endopol slowly choked on his own blood was heard. Four barb-wire ropes tied to the corners of the room were used to suspend him in the air. His wrists a mangled wreck of flesh bones and metal.

Then they clawed open his stomach, his bowels dropping to the floor. They ate him from the inside out and left only his skin and bones and the following message for the townsmen to find:

We know who you are, and you are next!
solitude said @ 9:52pm GMT on 9th May
Night Four:

As another night set in, the wolves were feeling in better spirits. The townsmen had willingly killed one of their own again. However the bitter taste of Nick's demise lingered in the back of their throats. And that taste needed to be washed out, with blood.

So they first broke into the farmshed behind the turnip-fields. Gathering what tools they could find. The pick-axe proved extremely useful.

They entered the farmhouse nearby, where as they found TheCooler shivering in a corner of the main livingroom, mumbling silently, "please... please... I'm not the one you want". They just replied with an evil smirk: "It doesn't matter, we just have a craving for turnip-stew".

That morning all that was left to be found was a pick-axe stuck in the wall with TheCooler's head still attached. The neck cut just below the jaw. Everything else was gone. The wolves apparently had a big appetite.
TheZombieCooler said @ 2:14am GMT on 10th May
Hey! I'm not THAT cowardly.
solitude said @ 9:52pm GMT on 9th May
Night Five:

After lynching yet another innocent, the townsmen went into the bar to drink some of their worries away. This was not going well for them. What the rest of them didn't know that in a valiant effort to find the wolves the innkeeper dusted the beers with fine silver powder. With an evil grin the alpha said to the others "I see they still believe in the stupid superstition that wolves are allergic to silver". Their keen sense of smell ofcourse detected the silver from miles away. They would kill Barnabas Truman for this insolence.

They drank up their beers, and went home. Later that night they returned for him. They dragged him down the cellar and threw him in one of the large wine-vats. With a stick they pushed him under as they watched him slowly drown in his marinade.

A few hours later, after the wine had drenched Barnabas Truman both from the inside and out, they skewered him above the fireplace usually reserved for other smaller creatures. Only after chopping off his head and feet the body would fit. After roasting him they dragged him into the main room where, after having had their fill of flesh, they left him there for the townsmen to find in the morning.
solitude said @ 9:53pm GMT on 9th May
Night Six:

The wolves were now clearly in more danger than ever before. They had finally sniffed out the last of the dangers. Thorners and Seer. Each was known. They wanted to go after the Swineherd but they couldn't be sure who already knew who was seered that night. Though reluctant, to hide the Alpha they had to run the risk of letting the seer live for one more day. So for now they would take their revenge on the thief.

Remiq had evaded death for far too long and deserved no subtle death. Still alive they clawed at his skin, making cuts, slowly etching his skin away. And when he was almost dead they thrust their claws into his heart and tore it out. A souvenir. For Narrenschiff to take on his journey to the world beyond.

They ate from the remainder of the carcas as much as they needed and left the rest of the wreck of flesh and bones to be found by the townsmen and the Necromancer next morning.
solitude said @ 9:53pm GMT on 9th May
Night Seven:

Now that the seer had made himself known the time had come to pay him back for his services. The word revenge just didn't seem to cover it anymore. Only the alpha remained now.

He made it quick that night. On his way to his new target he had found the shovel they used to bury Gronk23, which seemed a fitting tool for the job. While CapnSilver was preparing for his seering ritual he snuck into the room from behind, and struck him with the sharp side of the shovel. Hearing the skull crack a grim smile appeared on his face. At that point CapnSilver could only make a few whimpering noises. CapnSilver slowly used his last strength to turn to the wolf, uttering a raspy "You".

That was the last thing he would ever see. The alpha poked out the seers eyes with his claws. Then he tore of hands, arms, legs; blood and flesh everywhere in the room. Only his eyeless head more or less intact. He took one of the legs with him as he left and withdrew into the woods where he ate and howled at the moon.
solitude said @ 9:54pm GMT on 9th May
Night Eight:

The town was shrinking fast now. And good food was growing scarce for wolves. The past few nights had been more about revenge than feeding, so the alpha was growing hungry again.

What was left? An old sailor, an old warrior, an old priest. But he needed something a bit more substantial. So he thought why not give the last of the townsmen exactly what they wanted. Avid had allways had a fascination for teeth, and tonight he would see specimens of such might as he had would never see again.

Avid woke from his restless sleep that night. He thought he heard a sound, but decided it was nothing until his eyes catched a white shimmer in the corner of his room. The slowly from the shadows the wolf emerged, only his teeth showing brilliant white. The alpha chose not to make a big production of it this time. He jumped the poor barber and dentist and snapped his neck so he wouldn't make a sound.

And then he ate. A lot. An almost fleshless cadaver lay on the ground as he wiped the blood from his mouth. He grinned and said: "Funny, I used to hate going to the dentist."
solitude said @ 9:54pm GMT on 9th May
Night Nine:

Even though a lot of spectral entities were giving pretty strategic info to the still living, the alpha had a pretty good feeling about things. With a happy whistle he walked through the woods pondering who he would eat that night.

Quite soon it became clear to him. v21 was a man of the cloth, and the alpha wanted to make the holy man die by the hands of his followers. The alpha however was a man of the flesh, literally. So he figured "I've never been particularly fond of grain. Besides even if i was, the baker has been dead for a long time... Let's end his useless existance."

He ripped out jestyr's throat so he couldn't scream. Then he dragged him into the fields where he feasted on him. Jestyr's blood flowing in a circle from his body into the crops (yeah bad joke, deal with it ;) ). When he was done, the alpha walked back up the blood-marked path jestyr's body had created.

This was almost the end. Either he would die next day, or he needed a new town. "Heh. Maybe I'll move to the city after this"

Well played.
solitude said @ 12:18am GMT on 10th May
We had some private PM's which I think might have added some trust. Apart from that the seer had given thumble more reason to kill v21 than to kill me. But I am surprised that I flew so well under the radar till the latest day. Before day ten I had exactly zero votes against me during the whole of the game. I think only mouse had less votes and he was eaten on the first night.
juju said @ 6:48am GMT on 10th May
Again, well played. I had suspected you for a while, but once Thumble came to your defense as someone he really trusted I started to question that to the point where I was believing he had good reason to trust you.

Now noone's going to trust you at your word in SensibleSopranos. It'll be interesting to see how that all plays out.

Meanwhile I never had a single vote against me! It's hip to be innocent!
Kimota said @ 10:46pm GMT on 9th May
Well done, solitude.

Some things: yeah, the assignation of roles was purely random, the list of names that appeared on the extended were simply the order in which people signed for the game, and the grouping of seven was merely to make it easier to browse through. Then I made a list of twenty-one medieval-sounding professions and assigned them to each name by order (That's why CapnSilver was not the Sailor and Leavemealone was not the hermit).

To give the "secret" roles (wolf, seer, protector, Thorner) I used the highly scientific method of letting a pen drop on the list. Solitude being the Alpha was nothing but a mere coincidence, even if he proved to be impressively sharp.

He send the excellent messages above to choose his killing, however I decided not to copy them on the game, for fear of somebody reconizing his writing style. At the very least, if the choice was between solitude and somebody less verbose, the writing would make people pick the one with more vocabulary.

I'm gonna let the seer and the protector publidhe their messages here, if they feel like it.

Wolves for the win! Woo!
CapnSilver said @ 11:45pm GMT on 9th May
Look, I think I've been through everything before but, I was slightly untruthful.

I asked badgerbaiter for help. After he died.
So, he sent a message to the other thorners and thumble messaged me, telling me remiq was one, but would not reveal the others. Yes, we cheated and still lost.

At this point, remiq had already told me he was a thorner, but before I had said I was the seer, and you see, at this point I felt he was the alpha.. Stupid, yes. But oh well.

Now Nick was terribly helpful in posting the correct things to make me think he was a wolf. I felt he was confirmed without investigation.

Narrenschiff was also shifty, and as I said, I thought I'd take a look and lo and behold, wolf. Now this was tricky. I didn't have any other leads as gronk and solitude (you complete fucking bastard I'll hate you forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) flew pretty well under the radar. So we let him live for a little while but it might have worked against us....

Gronk was suggested by thumble, and the rest is history. I'm total suck. Sorry guys.
solitude said @ 12:13am GMT on 10th May
If you had won I would probably be bitter about it. But considering wolves won it's okay. I do admire the way you played though. At some point I thought we were really really doomed. I'm just glad you announced yourself, which gave us the clear to go ahead and kill you.

So...

LeavemeAlone said @ 5:12am GMT on 10th May
Well, no offense, but you did a few things wrong which was aided by the fact that the werewolves were very cunning.

1) You didn't kill Narrenschiff early on. Just checking on who would defend Narrenschiff in Round 4 would have helped widdle down suspects.

2) You came out to kill gronk23. Part of me was hoping that you would have backed down on saying that you were the seer, or at least start to think endgame where your ability to say people were innocent was no longer valid. Hell, you could have technically gotten the town to believe that I was the seer after I picked out Narrenschiff from a cold lineup. After all, solitude didn't kill you because he thought that you weren't really all that much of a threat.

3) You died with a list. Hell, solitude picked the perfect time to kill you. At that point, the cleared and solitude were all ready to kill people on that list. Of course, solitude wasn't on that list, and he was able to manipulate those offed so that he would win out. If you were more active early on, I'm sure you would have died after picking solitude. But then, seers usually die. Werewolves find them delicious.

Oh well. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next, more bloody game.
Narrenschiff said @ 7:45am GMT on 10th May
Oh no, after we figured out that Capn was the seer, we totally realized that killing him would be way too suspicious, as he had just investigated solitude. Unfortunately leaving him alive spelled the death of yours truly and gronk, but in the end it paid out.
gronk23 said @ 5:33am GMT on 10th May

gronk23 said @ 8:28am GMT on 10th May
We were really sweating it near the end there. We were trying to subtly manipulate your alliance by building up some trust with remiq, but in the end it nearly got us all killed. The game couldn't have gotten any more down to the wire than it did.
thumble said @ 8:58pm GMT on 10th May
Yeah I felt slightly dirty about that. There's no way I would've made first contact if it hadn't been for that message. You were in contact with remiq too but it wasn't nearly so obvious what side you were on. And by the time I felt ethically shifty about it I'd already gone too far.

Mind you I wasn't certain you were being honest either way, right up until we lynched Narrenschiff.
eightysix said @ 12:02am GMT on 10th May
Good game.

solitude said @ 12:06am GMT on 10th May
Oh a nice thing to probably add to all this was the following:

At night three we said "we know who you are". We didn't actually know but by then we pretty much had everyone pegged at that time, just not in exactly the same roles.

We then thought CapnSilver was seer. Unfortunately we also thought he wasn't that big a threat at that point. Later our suspicion shifted onto other people for the seer role. We should have killed him then and there. That would have made a much easier win. However we were foolish, and didn't.

We thought endopol was thorner, and barnabas truman was protector. We got them mixed up though.

We didn't think there would be 5 thorners though, and didn't catch on to thumble untill he revealed himself to me on the sixth (if i remember correctly) day.

Also we'll be posting the link to our google groups which we used for discussions, which contain most of our reasonings and strategies.

The last few nights I pretty much flew solo, so there isn't much to strategize in there. My guess was that I had some trust with thumble, and me being alone I was in a bit of a pickle. So I needed someone with more than zero trust. Thumble was that guy, that's why he lived. There was always the fear he might suspect me just for that reason, which he did, but thankfully did not follow up on.

The plan was to end up with v21 and thumble. Hoping plexer would die first due to the Nick link (thanks for that Nick!) and LeaveMeAlone second. I wanted to play the Kimota-is-ironic card by going "Damnit it's always the fucking priest! + a million irony" However jestyr played into my cards nicely by telling me he was suspicious of me. That gave me a good reason to kill him. And I could just say that it was pretty obvious that v21 did that as a last ditch effort to encriminate me.

I possibly overplayed that in the last day. But fortunately Capn's death-list combined with the other factors carefully planned out were enough.

The plan came up at the exact same time that CapnSilver announced his seerishness, and every event from that time on went exactly as planned.
Jestyr said @ 12:13am GMT on 10th May

You also had quite a strong knee-jerk reaction to me saying that I was in contact with the seer, which at the time I thought could only come from someone who already knew who the seer was and thought what I said made it obvious. Another gut feeling that I didn't follow up on. *sigh* I allowed myself to cover up your little faux pas far too easily, so eager was I to trust you and have another ally on side.

I was utterly convinced remiq was the seer. Turns out now that he just had contact with Capn and was wisely acting as a sort of spokesman. Solitude played a blinder, and was brilliantly subtle and trustworthy. Being brash and accusatory was certainly what got me killed, but it was worth it as I stirred the pot (giving us some Thorner/seer suspicions) and misled you guys into lynching plexer and sparing solitude.
