Once again you must abandon all your ridicule of Engrish and enter a magical land where music is fresh, new, and very very tasty. Check extended for the details. This especially long post starts off with a change of pace in Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.
That is really my favourite song of theirs, but since this will in fact be such a long entry, I'm gonna go ahead and leave the rest of their videos for part 4. But now its on to bigger and better things!
[music] [by Rainbow Randolf@3:59amGMT] [+10 Good] There is one thing that I have to say about Acidman: they are my favourite band in existence currently. They are an extremely technically sound band with a repertoire of sounds that usually change mid-song from mellow to furious, from midrange to downright beautiful. Their instrumental feats are nothing to scoff at, as they usually put forth one or two purely instrumental songs per album. I am constantly amazed that they are able to produce both that quality and quantity of sound with just 3 members...although their popularity has grown massively (and rightfully so) recently jetisoning them out of the indie scene I choose to put them here because they were once one of the driving influences for me to get further into Japanese Indie. So without further adieu: Acidman: Equal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_oKZCBCzus Sai: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3120649369336738682&q=Acidman World Symphony: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5o0AD-jgew Aru Shomei: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGM7m9PdsuA Slow Rain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc4phaawKPM Up next is a band that I could unfortunately only find a paltry single video on (poo on you Youtube and every other resource for Japanese music videos!), but the video itself is very good. The band itself has established itself as...well, strange and melodious with hypnotic hollow sounding guitar parts. This video sums up most of their stuff, but I would definitely recommend checking out some of their other stuff via your local downloading service. Drum:Kan: Who Saved the World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4bnZVFo4Z4 This band has two settings: eerie and boisterous. Sometimes their songs can hit you with a cavalcade of sound and sometimes they just have that amazing ability to hit the notes that you want to hear but in such a sequence that it makes you feel the atmosphere they want you to feel... Downy: Delta: http://www.redruin.com/2006/10/10/downy-%e2%96%b3-delta/ Zen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcTNaFepfd4 Now the reason that this is such a big post is because recently Youtube went on a witchhunt, informing sources all over the net of pirated videos being on their site. Thus a giant purge of the Japanese Indie videos I posted earlier have been unfortunately annihilated. But, luckily for us, repeat posters have emerged and it looks like this time no one is catching on. Another witch hunt probably won't be held until Youtube gets out of control again, and with the software out there to detect infringements, I don't think it will, which means they won't alert the Japanese company/site in direct posession of the rights to these videos. But I ramble, here are some videos I have so graceiously found links to once again. I will get more as they come along and as time permits. I will also attempt to upload my own fairly vast collection of videos in order to make Japanese Indie Time part 4, A New Hope, appear sooner! Some good stuff. Do you speak Japanese, incidentally. |

Nope, but they have translations all over the net. I usually try to find them once I get into a band to get their general "message". |

Sweet. Asking partly because I read somewhere (and it makes sense to me) that people like J-Pop partly because they can't understand the god-awful lyrics, letting the catchy tunes come in unfiltered. I imagine some of the pop tunes from here in America might have the same effect to someone who doesn't speak English. I don't speak Japanese, and on one hand I'm kind of afraid to set myself up for a let down. Anyway, the music's pretty good from what I heard. |

I am one such person. I enjoy the human voice, but not the crap that passes for lyrics usually. |

Yes, the lyrics are generally TERRIBLE, gutwrenchingly so. Go for Japanese indie, at least slightly better. Someone posted a morning musume video here or something and my brain locked up at lyrics that were over 90% made up of 超超超超良い超超超超良い気持ちよ! which translates to something like SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER GOOD SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER GOOD FEELING! I'm not sure how lyrics could get more relevant and reflectively introspective and deeply touching than those, but just call me addicted to hope. |

Hey ace, you may want to update your blogger profile to spell "intelligentsia" correctly. That's one of those things you want to spell right if you want people to believe you. Oh, and if you're as delightfully racist in person, I'm real surprised you got fired from an Apple store. |

I'm modding you up; not because I like the music, just because the name "Super Butter Dog" makes me laugh. |

I like the main entry. Takes me off my hooks for a while. Their nonchalant mood for everything else except their music makes it magnetic. |

Thanks for some leads. I have been wanting more Japanese music lately, and while great, Guitar Wolf and Teengenerate just weren't cutting it anymore. |

Redruin is always a good place for finding interesting new japanese music. Since I last posted it they have added a flash streaming feature for every song, which is extremely handy, and now have streaming videos as well sometimes. |
