Of course it's a fake - but when you think about it, this had to have been taken prior to 9/11. The fact that someone would create a fake and that the fake would line up with the same spot as the plane may be sheer coincidence, but it's a weird one, to be sure.

Nevertheless, it's a pretty good fake; the contrails formed at the right time, though you'd expect them to be bigger, and they sure looked real. And if this were shot against a screen (to hide the imperfections), then you'd likely see other problems. I also noticed that the chopper blades were turning at about the typical speed, so they were likely in a real chopper...

Of course, if it was a genuine, someone would be interviewing the people involved.

Someone HAS interviewed the people involved, and they said it was not faked. I saw this before 9/11, and read the witness interview, but it was so long ago I don't remember where I read the article. Will probably try to dig it up.
My question is; who in here is an expert on film/video manipulation?
Who can qualitatively say it's "fake as fuck"? And just how fake IS fuck, anyway?
The site is horribly written IMO, but I am willing to keep an open mind about such things. I don't believe everything I see on the net, but I'm not going to dismiss it as a hoax without proof that it IS a hoax.
It's a popular video amongst the UFO crowd, and none of the UFO skeptics I've read have said it was a hoax. I will have to research that more, though.
Also, when I first saw it on Sci-fi.com, they claimed it was not faked. Perhaps the person who claims that they have commisioned film-makers to prooduce such things could point me to where that is stated by Sci-Fi.

I do a great deal of compositing for video and this is a good job if you don't look at it frame by frame. The first obvious mistake is the lack of "tearing" when the UFO leaves the edge of the WTC. If you look closely the WTC. Tearing is seen in video when the CCDs are panned fast across an object- digital tape compression exaggerates this effect and you get bits of the object ghosting in a trail behind the actual object. You can see the "tear" of the verticle edge of the WTC from the left to right bobbing of the camera, and yet, the UFO which is moving much faster is realitively crisp with no digital tears as all. Later the compositor employed a blur effect which looks different than the tearing that is happening on the edge of the cockpit's windows. Still a good job, but a lot of work.

My buddies sold video of "flying rods" to one of these UFO shows for thousands of bucks and it was just moths flying that they shot at a different shutter speed than normal.

Actually, Splam and Piha, it does make me happy and it's just the information I wanted, as the post inspired me to write an article about it on my blog. Still working on it as I compile various "evidence" and speculation, but I did find the quote from the witness who filmed it:

Of course, it doesn't verify the authenticity of the footage. I am still looking for some debunking info about it as well.
I will agree with wayneewing that the author of the original post doesn't seem too bright, but I take issue with the anti-war comment. It might be neccessary to go to war on occasion, but I really don't think any civilized human is "pro-war".
Anyway, if still interested later today or tonight, the article will be up on my site.

Oh, course my friends who sold the "flying rods" footage said it was authentic. They even were interviewed on television saying so. How else are they going to get the $7k for the footage?

They even tried to convince me, but I have shot a lot of footage and have experimented with a bunch of shutter speeds and have had the same experience and called their bluff. They fessed up to me.

You ever notice that a lot of "flying rods" footage appears in front of caves? It is because the dark background is in stark contrast to the bugs flying (moths are best) in the foreground. Usually you see two or three sets of "wings" on the "flying rods". That is just the same bug's wings being exposed two or three times on the same frame.

Either way, aliens in a UFO or someone experimenting ultra secret aircraft are supposed to be discreet, as in not doing stunts in front of an helicopter.

Watched it again and yes, there are a few things about the witness behavior that bothers me. Her acting is bad, and the camera zooms in far too quickly after she points it out, unless he saw it before her....either way, she notices it behind the tower more quickly than one would expect considering the panoramic view of the city. Also, when the object zips over the city, the guy zooms OUT. Normally, one would zoom IN on the object rather than out.
Did a frame-by frame with the quicktime, and a couple of things I notoiced:
you can see the object between the towers before she notices it.
right after the zoom-in the object changes shape for one frame then back again. Also, the object seems to jump frames in couple of places.The fly by is seamless however, and the contrail looks real. The most telling evidence would be the few frames where the object flies toward them...maybe different filter analyses......
However they did it, must have been costly. Hope they got a decent chunk of change for all that work.
