On a totally unrealted subject, I think the time peopl put into their posts needs to be evaluated. Not only do they not search for previously posted items, but they put no content into the post themselves. No picture, sentence fragments, and poor representation of the link. I like to bitch. |

i third rude boy's comments. 1) no repost checking. 2) little to no descriptions. 3) no time taken to include an image. i fucked up and reposted a while ago but at least i took the time to take a screen capture of a flash animation, edit it, resize it and add comments to my post. i don't want to name names(but i will) but cathy posting 4 news articles in a row from comcast's site was the tip of the iceberg. i can go to fark.com or obscurestore.com and read goofy articles until my eyes bleed. i didn't say anything before b/c cathy is a good poster and comments on a lot of stuff so it's no biggie. seeing these shitty posts over and over let alone reposts is making SE suck hard. out of 10 posts 2 or 3 are the real gems. don't give me shit about "if you want SE to be better then make more posts." even if i make more posts that everyone loves the shitty posts w/no effort will still remain. oh and let's not forget the 80 sexylosers posts. don't get me wrong. sexylosers is a kick ass comic but it's getting to be out of hand. i think we may need some divine intervention from matt. sorry for the rant but rude boy said what i think a lot of people are thinking. |

Not to tell Matt what to do, but why dont you go back to the way SE was before? Wasn't it you had to have been a registered user for a certain amount of time, or log so many comments before you can post? If not, its an idea. |

Oh yeah, I forgot about that--maybe there was a wisdom in not every halfwit with a keyboard and one free hand being able to post. I agree that posting a 'new sexylosers' notice with no image is cause for hanging. I mean, come on...amnyone who comes here more than once a month knows that sexylosers reposts are frequent, and not checking beforehand is proof that one is indeed an idiot. |

I don't see how a user's number of comments has any indication on the quality or effort that user will put into their posts. (I don't think screenshots should necessarily be required, either... the bare minimum should be an unposted, working link and a good quote from the page.) Making people get an account before being allowed to post/comment was a great idea on Matt's part. Perhaps making people wait a week after opening an account before they are allowed to post will cut down the number of reposts: People won't be becoming members just to contribute their one"KEWL LINK," then disappear. I wish there was a way to for users to flag reposts to be deleted/ignored, to minimize the amount of time Matt and Tristan have to invest in maintaining SE. It would be easy for such a system to be abused. |

Question: How difficult would it be to run a quick auto-check on keywords and URLs when posting, and then show the three or four closest matches to the poster, so they see those before they have to scroll down to hit the "POST ENTRY" button? I know the current posting script will pop up some red text, but either that's not appearing as often as it should, or idiots are just ignoring it. |

i've added a reminder to the post page, telling people to do a proper search before posting anything. not exactly a solution, but hopefully it might have some impact. |

brass: i agree that comments don't equal quality. you can have a lurker who posts once in a great while and has excellent quality posts. i don't think a pic is required but it's nice and it shows a person put some effort into their post. |

airkiwi, while I agree the BoyGirlBang post was a more descriptive SE post, when I see "New Sexylosers" that's all I need to know (unless it's a suspiciously short time since I last saw one). OTOH, being one of the dumbasses who pavlovainly posted the golf trophy pic, reminders to check for reposts are a Good Thing, of only to save embarrassment. BTW, I've posted a new hot girl on my website, albeit clothed. |

Is it absolutely necessary for people to run screaming to SE when I have a new comic up? I'd rather have people miss a comic rather than have people get irritated over all the reposts. I can't guarantee I can post if there is a new comic (usually someone beats me to it) but if I can ask a favour, hold off on the "NEW SEXYLOSERS" posting. Please. For the love of all who read SE. |
