Making of America @ Cornell

quote [ Materials accessible here are Cornell University Library's contributions to Making of America (MOA), a digital library of primary sources in American social history from the antebellum period through reconstruction. ]

Found this as I was Googling for compulsive cross-hatching artists.

Oddly enough, I didn’t get a hit on Crumb, but this article [ http://www.farfilm.com/peggy/articles/graphiclife.htm ] has a nice quote: It’s really hard for me not to fill up every space with crosshatching.

I like to doodle with a gel pen, and I cross-hatch compulsively: I’ve liked the technique since I saw an artist do it on TV when I was a tyke. It seemed like magic to see the drawing come to life as he hatched it in.
