The Sceptre of MacGuffin

quote [ Beautiful but washed-up archaeologist Jessie McCloud receives an unexpected visit from her old professor, Sinclair Domingo. Why has the professor suddenly returned? What does he want? And who is chasing Jessie? ]

This was made as part of the 48 Hours film competition held a few weeks ago in Auckland, NZ. I was the script consultant on this film, which was so good that it made it into the finals. It's bloody funny and has two hot chicks in it, so go and watch it, ok?

Well shit my balls!! For having 48 hours that was great. Well done!!! It makes a little more sense when you read the rules.

Although I'm probably going to hate myself for posting this. I just did my first project for an Intro to Television course in college. It was live to tape at the crappy studio we did the class in. Students were the cameras, audio, video switcher etc... And I directed it.

I wrote the script (borrowed some lines from the Simpsons) and did the audio and video sequences in the 3 days before the class at home. Nowhere near the quality of Robyn's video, but it might be usefull for a good laugh.

Final project

The video sequence was edited down from the Mars Attacks! trailer. http://marsattacks.warnerbros.com/cmp/2-trailer.html

No need to critique, I figured I'd give you all someone to laugh at today.

the 48 hours thing is a technical feat.

doesn't stop the acting being embarassingly bad.

Oh lord, it's pretty poor. Why do people think comedy is easy and quick?
Robyn said @ 9:56pm GMT on 29th Jun
I'm willing to accept that the comedy may not come through at full effect when viewed in, say, a lone geek's bedroom. But the two cinema screening I attended had the house pissing themselves with merriment.

2000 people proved that sometimes the best comedy is easy and quick and not laboured over.

I did a 48 hour film which made the finals in Auckland too.

It's a mockumentary "Making of" a big budget hollywood film called
The End of the World 2

I laughed my ass off at Sceptre.

"Give it up Yessie, the next thing you dig will be your Graaaiiive"

Nice one :) There was some classic shit in that one.

"Making Of" was cool. I liked that it wasn't a bunch of people putting bad American accents. It worked, and I laughed.

And yeah, MacGuffin had some brilliant lines that people left the theatre saying. Full credit to the screenwriting genius of James and Ryan.

If you're not getting it, it might help to read the rules that governed this films. Some of the biggest jokes in Sceptre are direct plays on the rules.

For those who didn't catch them on the site:
DESCRIPTION:
The mandatory elements for each film in Auckland were...
A character: Jesse McCloud, a has-been
A prop: ice
A line of dialogue: "Do you mind if I have the last one?"

NOTES:
Films in this channel were made as part of 48HOURS, an annual contest to write, shoot and edit a short film within 48 hours.
