It's hard to put it any other way than "if you have to ask, you don't know" Why do you like lingerie or lesbians or whatever it is you like that doesn't directly have to do with procreation? |

what I don't understand is the censorship of the pictures. |

Blame MacArthur. |

As was discussed in an earlier hentai post, I have yet to see or hear anything substantial about this whole "MacArthur did it" rant. Censorship was common in Japan way before the allied occupation. |

(blink) Care to show some examples of censorship of erotica prior to the Occupation? There are many, many examples of pornographic ukiyo-e prints dating from the 19th century, both subtle and not so, that are rather detailed and not censored. In addition, MacArthur was a devout Christian, and had a broad evangelistic streak. It's not unthinkable that he would have created laws regarding pornography, considering his background. The Japanese have had several "blue laws" encoded into their legal system from the Occupation that make no sense from the standpoint of Japanese morality. It's only if you look at them through a Christian lens that they make sense. |

Well, let's see what a certain James Alexander and his research has to say on the matter. "As a matter of public policy, public discussion or portrayal of topics considered integral to social stability and the maintenance of national values was considered appropriate only if it was respectful and reinforced mainstream cultural and political values. Particularly from the mid-19th century, following adoption of European notions of inherent state administrative rights, government officials in Japan were not only empowered to control such portrayals through enforcement of existing laws, but were also expected to maintain general order and protect social welfare by enforcing a common sense of public decorum covering everything from individual manners and morals to public dignity and respect for national institutions and customs." As I read that, it means erotica was indeed censored. The paper continues that the 1947 post-war constitution did not include censorship, but: "government authorities typically used public hygiene laws to restrict the sale and distribution of obscene materials under Article 175 of the revised 1907 Criminal Code, which specified that A person who distributes or sells an obscene writing, picture, or other object or who publicly displays the same, shall be punished with imprisonment... or a fine." 1907, not 1947. Ways before the Occupation. While I agree that Western, Christian values were obviously the things that influenced the decisions that result in the rather silly censorship laws we have today, pinning them outright on General MacArthur is quite unreasonable. I'm sure the Allied Powers were more concerned of the proliferation of anti-American, racial and fascistic idealism rather than good old Christian values when creating censorship laws. |

There really should be a +1 fbonacci, for all the futanari, hentai, and bizarre fetishes. There should also be a -1 fbonacci, for all the futanari, hentai, and bizzare fetishes. +1 on this one (no dismembered girls as far as I can tell... yay!). |
