quote [ The Senate Republican Conference has a Web poll on its front page about the capture of Saddam Hussein. Apparently the results weren't turning out the way they like (what a surprise for a Web poll!), so they changed the form to switch the way two answers are recorded. Now if you choose the 1st choice, it's recorded as the 2nd, and vice versa. But there's no feedback to let you know it's happening. The change has been confirmed by checking Google's cache of the page. ]
Search for "online poll rigging" because I can't seem to get a URL with a '#name' to work. The original article is http://atrios.blogspot.com/2004_01_11_atrios_archive.html#107414565730750569

Always remember - this is the Republican idea of democracy. But hey, anyone who agrees with, well, every single expert on computer security who says that Diebold is one big election-stealing scam -- they're just a black hat conspiracy kook, right? |

Republcans are scumbags, I mean, I really hate all their phony religiosity and pious pronouncements about ethics and standards, when everybody knows they'd glady fuck their own moms ass bloody if it'd get them a bigger tax cut. But you know what even though I'd choose a liberal over a conservative anyday, Democrats aren't much better. |

\\If politicians are willing to tamper with something as insignificant as a Web poll, how much more tempting is it to tamper with the results of a real election?// Make ya wonder |

Elections in the future will be carried out by telephone: "If you would like to vote for the current president, please press 1." ... waits for next option... "Why have you not pressed 1? please press 1 now." ..... waits .... "You have still not pressed 1. Would you like emergency services to come to your aid? press 1 NOW." .... waits .... "Please press 1 or your local Election Conformance Officer will be informed. PRESS THE ONE BUTTON NOW!" .... waits .... "Thank you for recording your vote. You have voted for the current president, thank you. Long live the Just And Glorious Leader Of Freedom!" *click* |

Ok, not replying to the post, but all the damn comments. This anti-Republican sentiment is ridiculous. Not all Republicans are assholes, nor are all Democrats bleeding heart liberals. Stop throwing so much mud and conduct yourself civilly and you might get more respect. Treat others as you wish to be treated and all that other good crap. |

But if we were to treat people as individuals, we couldn't write off all their opinions by quickly assigning them to the other 'team'.. Politics might become productive and things might change for the better. It would be positively unamerican. Divide and conquer. It's so much easier to manipulate people when they are willing to divide themselves up into groups for you. It's always amazed me that the US is satisfied with a 2 party system. Think how much more hatred could be flying around if there were 3 or 4 parties. Nothing would ever get accomplished. |
