Teh Intarweb is sh1t

quote [ All manner of pointless and irritating content is continually poured down the infinite hole of data, unfiltered and over-appreciated. In accepting freedom of speech, we can't hide from its consequences - which in this case is millions of terrabytes of unreliable information, badly designed and clumsily written. We have failed our own creation and given birth something truly awful. We're just too busy cooing over the pram to notice. ]

some good points but could have been taken much further.

Most of this same stuff can also be said about books, newspapers, TV shows, etc.

While they do include a truckload of bullshit, there is also a lot of useful information (among other things i.e. entertainment) to balance it out.

I wish I had rolls of toilet paper that big.

That would be so cool.

That article was rather naive dribble and rather uniformed in itself -- as if proving its own case ;)

If everyone gets a chance to holler at the same time, then some people will holler like stuck pigs and others will have pure wisdom flowing from their lips. Of course when in history has the wisdom come from a majority, and when was common sense ever so common?

How is the value of the Net related to how MUCH garbage accrues. I mean, if you are severly anal rentitive, I can see how you would feel compelled to clean up the mess, make it nice and tidy, get everything in its little plastic bag in the right order and with sticker on it.

The media alone makes more noise than one could imagine possible. Sometimes noise, (like white noise) can be pleasant and relaxing. But chaos and order are a strange taoistic relationship, one giving rise to the other. They co-exist to our perception, sometimes one takes precedence, sometimes they are so balanced you don't even notice either.

So, sure, there is going to be a LOT more noise in the foreground and background for the forseeable future. That's a given by now, isn't it? What's the alternative ... oh, okay, yeah, the Thought Police ... they will clean up the "mess" and assure that all Information is accurate and approved. Well, that should get the point across. Another alternative is to move to the country and decide when to turn the noise on and off ;)

This is way past critical mass now. Dare I sound elitist by saying that those who are are evolved or evolving, at least during this digital info segment of the journey, will adapt? What is the adaptation? To be able to tune the noise in or out at will and ride it like a wave. To be able to sift through the rising wave of cacophony to find the vertible gold it obscures ... with speed, agility, and awareness. Some people are very good at finding very valuable antiques and such by sifting through thrift stores and garage sales.

The scene belongs to the mental miners who can find and recognize the diamonds and jewels that form, because of, not in spite of, the seeming chaos in the digital mix. This is akin to being the new gold rush, so to speak.

While the dial on the chaos machine goes up to 11, new meaning, discovery, and, even forms of personal power are formenting in this fertile womb of images and words.

So, think of some of the crap on the Net as really good fertilizer, (or good shit, if you will) and you are all set to go. Now, simply search and sift, add a half cup of comparison, two pounds of thought, four tablespoons of synthesis, shake and bake ... ummmm, delicious! You can then have a heaping help of the the ultimate sweetbread: World Brain ala Net!

I just found this... (stevil linked to print-version instead of the main slides)

So, was gonna post it and say, "Epimenides paradox?"
Ah, well.
