quote [ A werewolf (also lycanthrope or wolfman) in folklore is a person who shapeshifts into a wolf or wolflike creature, either purposely, by using magic, or after being placed under a curse. ]
Day one of Sensible Howling, the game.
Welcome to the gorgeous and peaceful town of Lupensbrusch, in the middle of a generic medieval east European country. This town is known for its high quality of life: you actually have an impressive life expectancy of forty-seven, a third of your children will survive beyond the age of five, and no more than a twentieth of the population dies of starvation during the winter. Also, the town is famous for its excellent turnips.
[mafia game] [by Kimota@12:37pmGMT] [+10 Good] Heaven on earth, you say? Wrong! Lately strange occurrences have been going on-- cattle horribly mutilated during the night, particularly during the full moon, small kids disappearing from their cradles, and the animals being restless at nighttime. The signs are clear: somebody amidst you has been cursed with lycantrophy. Probably something to do with the gypsies you all burned at the stake just for kicks a couple of months ago. Unless you do something right now you are all doomed. Don't even think of getting external help: the King uses very expeditive methods of getting rid of werewolves and vampires. Namely, torturing and killing everybody in town. And probably everybody in the towns nearby, for good measure. You have no idea of how many werewolves there are, but three anonymous notes nailed on the door of the town's church give you some hope: The first one claims to be from a member of the "Confederacy of the Thorn", a secret organization devoted to depose the King. Now, they know who the other members are, and they were together conspiring when the attacks took place. But they cannot reveal their identities, firstly, because of the whole being tortured and killed by the king's soldiers, and secondly, because if the werewolves know that you are a "Thorner", and that you have a bit more knowledge than the average peasant (that some other people is not a werewolf), you will become a target. The second note was from somebody claiming to possess "seer" powers, and explaining that he or she can enter the mind of somebody else during the night. So he or she will investigate one individual every night, although the alpha wolf, the leader of the pack, will probably notice her and therefore be immune to her powers. The third note came from one of you, saying that he or she will devote his nights to secretly follow somebody he or she believes in danger and protect him from werewolves. He or she can also devout his or her energies to protect him or herself. What to do? Paranoia starts getting the best of you. Do you suspect of somebody? You can vote to lynch the most likely suspect during the day, changing the vote as many times as you want, but when the day is over, your last vote will be the one that will count. If you are some sort of big party-pooping sissy, and you don't want anybody to be executed, you can vote for "no lynch". If the "no lynch" votes outnumber anybody else's, or there are no votes whatsoever, there will be no lynching. If there is a tie, all those tied will die. A necromancer will examine the rests of those executed, and will determine if they were telling the truth. Once the night starts, werewolves will get together and decide to kill one of the townies. They will do so somewhere else. The alpha male of the pack's vote decides in case of a tie, but if the alpha dies, the regular wolves will have to untie through any other method. The game ends when all the members of the other team die. If all the wolves die, the townies win, if there is an equal number of townies and wolves, the wolves will immediately kill the surviving townies and win. Non-players, please, avoid talking strategy or influence votes in any way. May the gods take care of your poor soul.
